They still make the dried beef. Usually it's kept over in that section where you'll find the Spam, Deviled Ham, Chili and like-items.

Funny thing, I don't really have a Southern accent. Lived in Europe, mostly UK, for almost 6 years so guess I lost it somewhere.

Dontknow

You should try that chipped beef in cream sauce over bread or toast. Truely a comfort food. And I'm a Yankee. Wink

You mean shit on a shingle? laugh out loud Yep, I've had that, but it's been years ago.

Hmm, freakiest thing I eat regularly would probably be cottage cheese with sliced avocados, salsa mixed in and eaten with tortilla chips. Eat

EEK! I started to do the cottage cheese and salsa thing with tostito type chips years and years ago...then started adding the avocado in the last 5-7 years or so. You been peeking in my kitchen windows again?!

I LOVE brussels sprouts. I often buy the frozen sprouts (of course, fresh is the best though) and saute them with butter, olive oil, garlic, and a bit of salt......delicious as a side dish!

They do? To me, they smell very similar to boiled cabbage....but more fragrant.

By the way, I often order sauteed brussels sprouts at Italian restaurants. They usually saute it with pancetta......so yummy!!!!!!

My freaky foods are menudo and a sandwich I call a heart attack on bread. You take a slice of white bread, slather it with butter, then put sliced hard boiled egg, then top with slices of hard cured smoked sausage. Then you put some salt and pepper on top and call 911. laugh out loud

I used to eat pickled ham hocks (not feet) but then couldn't find them for a while and stopped eating them. I've also had rattlesnake, tastes like chicken. Love fried alligator but it's hard to find in Seattle.

Are you absolutely positive you're Southern and not just a transplant???

Have you tried Duke's, though??? It really bears no resemblance to other mayos......none.....has a sightly sweet taste. One of the few mayos left to contain real eggs. nod

As for Spam, in general, I won't eat it either, but the Virginia Country Ham one ( not sold anymore, I don't think ) is actually very good if grilled. I tried it while camping with friends and was surprised at how tasty it was.
I grew up on Hellman's Mayo. They don't sell Dukes in Texas.

You must be one of those snooty rich Southerners like my Grammy. I'm one of the other kind of Southerners, the kind who eats anything, pretty much, that comes in a can. There used to be a product that came in a very small clear glass jar that was thinly sliced corned beef, like you could make a sandwich of. It was made by Armour, I think, and was very deliciously salty. I used to look forward to going hiking or camping just so I could have an excuse to buy it to have to eat. nod
Yep, it was Armour. My grandmother always had that in her fridge. I preferred Leo's(?) thin sliced sandwich meat. It's was salty and oh so good. I once got in trouble as a kid for eating a whole package of the meat all by itself. laugh out loud I think it was Leo's as it had a cartoon lion on the package.

I only eat them out of their shells laugh out loud. Only way to do it imho!
Iagree Give me a dozen oysters with a little fresh lemon squeezed on top and a dash of tabasco. Hog heaven!

I can only eat raw oysters. Squeeze some lime on it, dash of cocktail sauce and tabasco.....delicious! But, I don't like the taste and texture of cooked oysters.

laugh out loud Well, I might agree if I hadn't been doing the CC and salsa from long before I ever even knew about SD. And avocado is a natural addition.

Now if you were to ask me the weirdest thing I have tried since moving to Vegas....that's another story.

You people keep mentioning cottage cheese and salsa, but I like sour cream and salsa mixed up and used to dip my deep fried onion rings in.

You lie. They didn't have Tostitos before SD. Nono2 Harhar (If I know you, and I'm pretty sure I do, you'll switch to Doritos now. Yes, I noticed you said 'style chips' but I think that's your easy-out for this embarrassing charade about who mixed that mess first.) Stick Out Tongue

And to the second part, how many sea snails have you eaten since moving to the desert?
