So I don't like to use my mind...

So the comments I've gotten after posting

"I'd rather put a hot dog on a bun"

really hit close to home.

I find this interesting. I guess its true. I don't like to use my mind. One job I wouldn't do in a million years is accountant.

I couldn't stand homework in school. If I had to choose between sitting in an air conditioned office cubical all day in front of a computer or driving a UPS truck, I think I would go with the UPS truck.

Do I want to drive a UPS truck? No. But one of the things I realized while working as a seasonal helper for that company is that a lot of the drivers are pretty smart and most I've spoken to have a Bachelors degree. They just decided that they were already making decent money and were closer to retirement than starting a new career.

I don't think it makes me a bad person, or a loser, or even a stupid person, because I don't like to think.

I think there's a problem with society. Society tells us what to like. It sells us what to value. It tells us we want to live in as big of a house as possible and cram it full of stuff. The more stuff you own, the better. It tells us that intellectuals are supposed to watch Broadway plays and not NASCAR. Well I love NASCAR and would rather swallow a rusty nail than sit through a Broadway play.

Society also tells us that we want to have a suit and tie job. It doesn't matter how miserable you might be actually doing that job. Big money, Big money. Thats all we are trained to know.

An interesting social experiment would be what would happen if we could isolate a community (in an alternate universe) and pay every job equally. Ok, thats called socialism, but use your imagination. And what if the janitor got paid $200,000 and an office exec. $67,000.

Isn't the boy or girl working in the top floor of an office building with a phone in one hand multitasking several things at once with a lot to do and a lot on their mind, at least somewhat envious at the man in the hot dog truck out the window?

Does anyone ever think "Some days I'd rather just put a hot dog in a bun"

Just in:
LSU QB Jordan Jefferson along with 3 other teammates were brought into question by police after a bar brawl last weekend. Apparently, no charges were filed against Jordan Jefferson because he only completed 4 of the 16 punches he threw, and 2 of those were to the wrong person. The team's Curfew was 10:30, but seeing as the incident happened around 2:00 am, clock management is still an issue for Les Miles.
Crying2 Just 'cause you're mad at him, doesn't mean you have to take it out on the rest of us! The bar just didn't have digital clocks. Those analog things are hard to see in the dark! And besides, those psych majors were being mean!

ups treats its workers like dirt. When you are an unskilled worker you are easily replaced and get crapped on by management with little recourse. Get a skill where you become a valuable employee and have some leverage where you don't have to put up with other peoples crap

I guess one can do whatever they want, but the example of a janitor making more than an executive is just simply ridiculous. I agree that some are likely quite over compensated (this is generally always going to be an opinion), but they've got harder jobs than a janitor. Pretty sure the OP doesn't know how the game works, or he's a closet socialist LMAO

I wish I could rep you for that. Thats a good way of putting it.

Duh. I don't think you understood. The janitor example was a "what if". It was my attempt at taking money out of the equation trying to find out which job would bring more happiness. Its hard to imagine that when money clouds the mind.

You agreed that janitor is an easy job and implied that easiness is a good thing. Therefore a harder job pays more. Harder being the con. Easy being the pro. If money was out of the equation, would everyone flock to the harder job because they like to use their mind? Or would they choose the easy job.

I think they would choose the easy job and that everyone, not just me, would rather not work their brain harder than they have to, and that the only reason certain jobs are valued is because of the paycheck.

Money, IMO, distorts peoples perceptions. I am able to look past money and think about what would actually bring me more happiness. I think I'm on par with the rest of the general public, its just I'm willing to admit things, or even see things better, while most people can or will not.

Hope that made cents. That is all. Thank you. Cool
