Official 2011-12 NHL Thread - Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings!

Hockey is back! After a summer of tragedy, it's time to drop the puck!

Who's the Cup favorite? Who made the best off season moves? When will Crosby return? When will Doughty sign?

And to start off the season, Mike Modano officially retired yesterday.

How these guys can even stand up - nevermind skate - at this point is beyond me. I am hard-pressed to think of any sport or competition with athletes in finer physical condition. They have at this point nearly played two complete games - who else does that?

Simply amazing. At this point either team deserves the win.

Also, thank God for the ice maintenance timeout! laugh out loud

Preds finally get their act together. Awesome game all around. Rinne was unreal at times tonight, especially when they were killing a 5 on 3 PP. Kostitsyn and Radulov might find themselves scratched on Friday night now after theor replacements stepped up big.

Can't believe the Caps-Rangers game either. Hockey truly is the greatest sport ever.

AND it's been a clean game. If there have been 10 minutes in penalties so far I'd be shocked.

Insane game. That overtime was wicked intense. Easily could have gone either way. Was it just me or did we not see much Ovie on the ice in the second and third OTs?

I didn't notice, though I also wasn't paying attention. Injury maybe? Or resting for future games (which would seem silly)?

I know his defense isn't all that good, but if you need someone to find the back of the net, seems he'd be the one to do it. He hit the post in the first. I had a feeling Gabby was gonna pot it for NY. The puck was finding him the entire overtime.

Ovie seems to be a shell of his formerly always great self. if hockey had a DH like baseball, he'd be it. He's been benched off and on so far, and it doesn't seem to be stopping them, it just seems like certain situations the coach doesn't trust him for Dontknow

p.s. great game. wanted the caps to win, but thought the rangers did play better in OT overall, although real scoring opportunities were fairly equal.

He was definitely out there. He had a HUGE hit early in the 3rd OT. I remember thinking that OV was still awake.

His line needs to be broken apart though. Backstrom and Johansson are not doing anything. Johansson needs to sit - he's sucked all season.

The Caps have never won a game that has gone past 2 OTs.

I'm not upset they lost. Ok, I am, but I thought the Caps had their chances and didn't finish. The GWG was just a defensive breakdown - allowing a guy like Gaborik to walk into the slot towards the net basically unprotected is just asking for trouble.

Oh well...bring on Saturday's game.
