Pumpkin Carving Contest 2011

The Sixth Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest is underway!

Due to fewer participants in the last few years we have decided to move this to the Lounge.


Maybe if we get a ton of entries we can move this back to the Announcements forum next year and have bigger prizes available again....come on people ...show us what you can do!

This year you'll be posting your pictures here in this thread and then we'll make a poll for people to vote. Yes, I know it's not incognito this way..so I hope you all vote for the ones you really like.


Here's what you need to do:


1) Get a pumpkin.

2) Carve it.

3) Take a few digital pictures of that pumpkin, and post your favorite in this thread by 11:59:59 PM PDT, Nov. 3rd. You can choose to have your entry lit or unlit.

4) A placard with the words "Slickdeals 2011″ must be included in the picture to qualify for voting. Photo-shopping the words onto the picture does not let us know it's really your picture. It has to be a sign (placard). Some examples can be found in the wiki of this thread for 2010, 2009 and 2008.


Rules
  • Entries can be as creative as you want, but they must be PG13 or tamer and conform to our image rules.
  • Also, entries must have a placard somewhere that mentions Slickdeals 2011 in order to verify authenticity.
  • A group of pumpkins that create a theme can be submitted as one entry.
  • Once an entry is submitted, it can not be changed
  • Submissions must be made by 11:59:59 PM PDT, Nov. 3rd.
  • We will have a new thread with a poll for you to vote starting on Nov. 4th and voting will last one (1) week. Extra 5 points (thumbs up) for Slickdeals or Black Friday themed pumpkins.
  • Only one entry per person, please.
  • You may vote on as many as you like.The rules are subject to update for clarification if necessary.
Prizes are:

  • Grand Prize: Pandigital 8" Digital Photo Frame (model Pan8008DW) + SD T-Shirt + SD Beanie
  • 2nd - 10th Place: SD T-Shirt + SD Beanie

I have two kids waiting to bring out the power tools tomorrow (we use sawzalls, rotozips, and jigsaws for this).

I shall post the winnning pictures. The rest of you might as well put "slickdeals 2011 losing pumpkin" on your placard.

btw, i don't know who else have it cheaper but large pumpkins at cvs are $3.99 this week

I chickened out. Took one look at the pumpkins, thought about previous visits to the ER and decided it was best I didn't have anything sharp and pointy in my hand. laugh out loud

that's what it's all about, having fun!!

i had to carve a pumpkin and earn my shirt and hat when this contest first started cuz i wasn't a mod yet. man oh man, was i a real bitch. my jack o lantern was almost done and some kid walked near me and made me drop it on the ground. whole thing splattered and i was pisssssed!!!!

till this day i still feel bad for being so mad about it. it shoulda been fun but i wanted my sd gear!! Frown

Oh yeah SD has a Halloween contest! I remembered it one time, back sometime ago. Maybe this should be on the FP, so people will know and there'll be more participants?

this contest started out in the lounge then went onto site-wide but since there weren't as many participants as anticipated, it got moved back to the lounge for this year.

i cross-posted this in the contest & sweepstakes forum

Depending on where you live a lot of the pumpkin patches sell pumpkins for super cheap. We have a place called the Fun Farm here. It costs $6 per person but you get a free pumpkin and and marshmallows to roast over the fire there and a glow bracelet (lol) and there's hayrides and corn mazes and lots of other stuff. Oh! Also if someone wanted to wait till after Halloween to enter I bet pumpkins will be going for super cheap after Halloween.
