$13k is pretty expensive! That's close to what private university tuitions (like Santa Clara University) were back when I was in college.
Its not like they jumped straight to pepperspray, they went through all the other levels of force.
Read my other post.
By the way, the Libyan government killed or try to kill those rebels. So, you're trying to "equate" pepper spray use with actual gun fire and machine guns? Okay....that makes a lot of sense!
"Standard operating procedure" = "Following orders"
Not sure why that is so hard to understand.
Fat Cop could've used his own moral judgement and reasoned that a 20 year old woman sitting on the sidewalk does not need to be pepper sprayed. That was an excessive and inappropriate use of force. So he does not get a free pass for following procedure.
That's the point.
35 cops in riot gear against 50 college sudents sitting on the ground.. and the cops somehow rationalize that it's a threatening situation? Give me a freaking break.
.
If the cops get pepper sprayed as part of their training/hazing.. that's their own business.
And BTW, I have seen a cop get sprayed on TV in the academy.. it was a short burst in a thin stream from maybe 15 feet away. Fat Cop in the picture has the Costco bulk size of pepper spray and is about 3 feet from the woman's face! That's excessive.
An extreme example.. let's say the cops got their arms broken in training.. does that justify them doing it to the kids?

I am not an expert on what cops do.
But how did they handle situations like this before pepper spray and tazers were invented?
Tazers and pepper spray were initailly developed as an option for "last resort" situations so police wouldn't have to kill people. Now they've evolved into weapons of convienence.
The cops just don't want to do their job anymore.. It's a lot easier to pepper spray/taze
and then ask questions later.

If you watched the whole video you would have seen that these people were asked several times to get up off of the sidewalk. If they would have done that and protested in a legal fashion they would not have been sprayed. They chose to go against police orders so they chose to be sprayed. I mean you even see the officer shaking the can for at least 20 seconds.....do you think that might be a clue?
Moral judgement was displayed when the officers gave these people the opportunity to avoid conflict. They were given more warnings than they deserved. Once should have been it.
These people make it harder on those who protest within the limits of the law. And they don't look poor and put a upon.....they look like a bunch of nutjobs.

Pepper spray in no way is a last resort. It is used so avoid the last resort.
Cops don't want to do their jobs? Do you think they just decided to go out and put this stuff on their belts? That wouldn't be part of their training and madatory gear right? OMG.
just thought i'd post a random image of a woman that is creating a civil disturbance ... Should she be pepper-sprayed??? (or course not, but if this discussion remained on course, it would end up in the podium!)

Nice right wing reply.. You disagree with me, but rather than respond/discuss like most people, you resort to name calling.
Please do put me on ignore, if you are so inclined.

It's not an outrage that they were pepper sprayed, it's an outrage that the cop is in "trouble" for doing his job. These morons can protest all they want, do it without breaking the law and this issue would never have occurred. All they wanted to do was provoke an officer into doing something people like you would disagree with in order be a 'martyr' for their cause. Clearly it's working because people for some reason actually think like you do.
Grow up and realize that this was nothing more than the police doing their job and removing a bunch of lazy, hippie jackasses who were breaking the law.
