speaking of working hard. I am so sure a bunch of lazyass saying others are not working hard....
Plenty of ppl protesting on the street has a better job than u I guess....... You don't have to wait till you are starving to start protesting, that's too late

Back to the topic the authority can easily claim any protests illegal with its power... It can be "illegal" on public property or private property. So should people all protest in their own homes?
WTD are you talking about? Huh

Am I the only one who finds the arrogance and entitlement complex of the most vocal of the UC Davis crowd absolutely abhorrent? It really grates on me for some reason.
I thought the same thing when I viewed the video.

They act as if the first amendment entitles them to do whatever the fark they want, when they want, without repercussions. They played the game, didn't play by the rules, and got burned. Now they want everyone involved to get fired/resign, like the students have no culpability in the matter.

shake head
I completely agree.

What if these protests are affecting our everyday lives? It may not be this particular location, but the protests in general.
I don't know, but these protests won't affect my life regardless of the outcome. The tea party movement and the OWS protests are largely focused on white people problems.

At the end of the day, poor people and minorities will be at the bottom of the totem pole.

What "white people problems" are you referring to?

Please..... the similarities are all there...

And don't tell me that back in the 60's those whites didn't support such police brutaility aim squarely at all the peaceful protesters ( who happened to be black)...

So I guess MLK was a lawbreaker back then... just like those people at UC Davis, that they deserve to treated that way by police..
Yep, you make a solid point.
Lots of people didn't agree with the civil rights movement at the time, and supported police brutality.. Mountains of evidence that the government supported racism at the time (and supported slavery in the past).

The right wingers don't agree with the cause of the "Occupy" people, so they are fine with the police brutality. The school administration and cops escalated the situation and initiated the violence. Just because the kids "were warned", it doesn't justify police overreacting..

If it was a cause the right wingers agreed with, I'm sure they would be outraged.

Quote from Landers :
There is a huge difference between why MLK was protesting vs why these lazy hippies are protesting. MLK was protesting the obscene violations of basic human rights and segregation of african americans as a lower class of citizen. At least they had a legitimate disagreement with society and how they were being treated.
.
And at the time of MLK protests, there were many Americans that believed Blacks should be kept in the status quo. I'm sure if there was a Lounge back then, many people would've cheered the cops shutting down civil rights protests.
You are using hindsight now to justify those protests. You are proving the point that it's ok to break the law protesting as long as Landers agrees with the issue that is being protested.

It has nothing to do with the fact that they were protesting, or their message. It has everything to do with the fact that they were blocking a public right-of-way. They were impeding upon the rights of the students who paid their tuition to have an avenue to/from wherever they are going. They were impeding upon the rights of any disabled students that may have needed to traverse said route.

They were given a chance to disperse, and they refused. They disobeyed a lawful order from a competent authority. The other methods of dispersal would have been much more physically violent. You have the right to protest, you don't have the right to take away others' rights because you're a whiny brat.

What about any handicapped kids, senior citizens, those with disabilities? These people should have to suffer because these kids are being inconsiderate of the other students/facility?

It is against the law to block a sidwalk. Not to hard to sum up.
Did the protestors actually prevent someone from passing through?
I didn't see any evidence that they did.
