How many loungers got guns for Christmas?

I got plenty of ammo, but no guns.....Sadwalk

According to the FBI, over 1.5 million background checks on customers were requested by gun dealers to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System in December. Nearly 500,000 of those were in the six days before Christmas.
It was the highest number ever in a single month, surpassing the previous record set in November.

I avoid Prvi, Fiocchi, Herters, Brown Bear and all it's derivatives, anything that is steel cased for the most part.
Brown Bear and Herters I agree, but what have you got against PRVI or Fiocchi? I shoot quite a bit of both. PRVI performs well for me, and is relatively clean. There are plenty of good deals on it, particularly for rifle ammo. Fiocchi tends to burn a bit hot, but otherwise is fine. I used to shoot it quite often some years ago when it was more common and less expensive than it is today.

For carry ammo i second the Hornady Critical Defense suggestion, which i would follow with speer gold dot, then federal hydrashok as the third choice.
My exact order of preference as well. Smilie

As to the recommendation of a ruger MK III or Browning buckmark for a 22 versus the Mosquito, as someone who owns all three, the first two are really totally different types of guns than the mosquito.
the mosquito is a traditional semi auto type pistol while the Buckmark and MK III are more target variants.
I guess my thought on this is that I view all three as target pistols, although I do not own nor have I ever a shot a Mosquito. I fondled one once, but that's about it. I've been too leary of the range reports.

My next .22 purchase is going to be a Heritage Rough Rider 9-shot .22lr/.22wmr. I have a bunch of sub-sonics and Aguila Colibris I'd like to pop off in the back yard, and my autos just aren't going to do it unless I pop one round at a time.

Santa didn't bring me anything either, he's probably afraid I'll try to bag a reindeer. laugh out loud

I did pick up a nice tricked-out, used Ruger Mini-14 yesterday at the gun show for about half what it was worth. Less than two minutes later a guy offered me $100 more for it but I didn't sell. I wanted to play with it, but it was raining today.

I also saw a few of these at the show:

I'd prefer a larger "zombie slayer" like an AR-15, but I guess it's kind of cool.

Dad got a Taurus Judge which he's already decided will be his "under-the-bed" gun. I can't wait to go shoot that thing. It's chambered for .45LC and .410 shot shell. Should be tons of fun to shoot.
Definitely fun to shoot and surprisingly not nearly as much recoil as I expected. Nice self-defense weapon and believe it or not I am seriously considering using mine as a back-up concealed carry gun.

It looks like I'm going with the XD subcompact and DH is getting the.... I think it was the Ruger LC9... but he just went to find our friend so I can't remember. We are pretty set on a Sig Sauer mosquito for our .22.
XD subcompact is a great gun. I got one in .40 to use as a carry gun, even got Crimson Trace grips for it, but I've had a hard time finding a holster to comfortably carry it. I actually find it easier and more comfortable to carry my Glock 22.
The Ruger LC9 Thumbsup That's what I'd suggest to anybody looking for a compact carry gun.
I've heard mixed reviews on the Sig, there's one local dealer that swears by them and another that won't sell them, I personally don't have any experience with it. I'm in the market for a .22 pistol too and I've pretty much decided on the Ruger SR22 that just came out. I handled one over the weekend at the gun show and loved it, the guy wanted too much for it so I didn't buy. The SR22 is very similar to the Walther P22.

Same here, but I'll also include Hornady TAP in there too.

Didn't get any guns but did go out to a private range in California while visiting the in-laws over the holidays and shot a nice variety. Many rifles and shot a couple of .45's, first time firing handguns. Now I want a handgun, if only to take to the range here. Super fun stress reliever.

i took three female friends out to the local range here over November and December.
All three had never fired a gun before, let alone a handgun.
Now all three want to go back to the range everytime its sunny and above 45. Big Grin
All three are also wanting me to help them pick out guns and go to the CCW classes with them.

What have i got myself into???

I've personally had too many defective rounds with Fiocchi, and the PRVI stuff just burns too dirty for me. Plus I've gotten several boxes where the primers were defective and wouldn't fire at all.
Quality control just seems to be lacking for both.

Reminds me of my Ruger 6-Shot - 3Screw - that I picked up - .22lr/.22 - and I still love that Rugar P89 the best of all Thumbup

Ahh, ammo.

For target practice, my favorite is American Eagle 147grain, which can be heard to find. 115 Gr is also fine, just be aware that it will be more 'snappy' when you shoot it. I like to practice with the heavier 147gr ammo because my carry ammo is also 147gr.
I don't use American Eagle but do use 147 grn when I can find it in cheap target since I use 147 grn for carry too. As for 115 grn being snappy....hell yeah! Too snappy to enjoy if wanting to shoot more than 300 rounds at one time. That's when shooting my carry weapon, my Kahr CW9.

Speaking of my carry weapon I'm so happy I chose the Kahr for carry. I use a Remora holster [remoraholsters.com] (which I love) so it's a comfortable gun to carry since the holster is so versatile. Kahr has probably sold a lot of those CW9's from people at the range that have shot mine and fell in love with it.

Wal-Mart is a pretty decent place to get ammo, you can get the Winchester White Box (WWB) for about $20. It's 100 rounds of 115gr 9mm.
WWB is about $24.95 per 100 around here. Walmart has the best price on it in the SLC area. Cabela's is down in Lehi (about 30 miles South) and I stock up when I go down there on target rounds and Speer Gold Dots since Cabela's carrys both in 147grn. Just the target rounds may vary in price on what brand they are promoting at the time.

Quote :
Set up a deal alert for 9mm in Hot Deals, we do get quite a few deals for 1000 round buys.
Good idea.

Are you teasing or are you actually afraid of guns? Ever shot one? If not you might want to try it, there was a recent thread about a female reporter that didn't like guns but while doing her report she shot one for her first time.....and loved it!

More and more people are not only shooting guns, they are buying them. Out of those, many are getting their concealed carry permits. The numbers of Americans celebrating their freedom guaranteed in the Bill of Rights shows up in a recent report by the NRA:

Quote :
Yet NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System) checks, over 99 percent of which are related to firearm acquisitions or carry permits, have risen from 11 million in 2007, to nearly 13 million in 2008, to over 14 million in 2009 and 2010, and to 16.4 million in 2011, almost guaranteeing that sales of new firearms have been increasing during that time frame.

Isn't it nice to know that there are so many law-abiding people around you and that they have proven their status as a law-abiding citizen (something most people don't or can't do!) with a background and fingerprint check from the FBI?

Yes, I've shot before and am actually pretty good at it. However, I do not want to own one or have one in my home. I guess if the Zombie Apocalypse happens I'll just be out of luck. Weeping
