RECALL: Excedrin®, NoDoz®, Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products

408 1,133 January 9, 2012 at 05:10 AM in Grocery (7) Rite Aid
http://www.novartis-otc.com/otc/index.html

Novartis Consumer Health (NCH) is voluntarily recalling all lots of select bottle sizes of Excedrin® and NoDoz® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier as well as Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier, in the United States.

NCH is taking this action as a precautionary measure, because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other Novartis products, or contain broken or chipped tablets.

As this is a voluntary recall at the consumer level, Novartis Consumer Health advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use and return them to Novartis Consumer Health for a full refund.

Consumers that have the product(s) being recalled should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time) for information on how to return the affected products and receive reimbursement.

Consumers also may click here to obtain a form to obtain a refund.

These actions have been communicated to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We are working closely with the FDA and will continue to do so throughout this process.

Additional information may also be found on the FDA website at www.fda.gov.

*Update* I just got off the phone with the rebate center, finally got through. For the opened meds he took the down the lot # expiration date, product name and count. He said I will be getting fair market value on these items. Note* a few of the opened items were expired I don't know what they will give me for fair market value on those, didn't say. I asked what fair market value was and he said he didn't know.

For the items that are in boxes I have to send in the upc with the form he told me to attached separate sheet with the items listed because there isn't enough room on the original sheet. I will be taking a pic of all my upc's and form for future reference. He also said that they would only give $2 for postage. I asked if he could just take all the information over the phone he told me no I would have to mail them in.

**There have been differing reports of directions received from cs reps. Suggest if you call for yourself. Document the reps name, time, date, and take pictures.

So if we fill out the form, do we need to call first? I only have nine items that are part of the recall. I don't think they could make this any more confusing with the different answers (send UPCs, don't send UPCs; send in forms for each, only send in one form, etc.)

This was on my local news....they did not say where to return them....just said it was recalled and may cause other effects( increase drowsiness). Bet it will be on the world news.
I may choose to return them to the store...less hassle and I will spend the money there anyway.

FYI--I called CVS to see what they would do without a receipt and was told you would get a moneycard no problem.
I don't want a money card, I want cash. This was Novartis' screwup, they want me to throw their defective crap away so nobody dies & sues them into oblivion, the least they can do is streamline this process, put enough people on the phone to handle the calls, and come up with one simple coherent policy on returning the stuff.

Quote from Zoe Moon :
I found a chipped Excedrin express gel tablet in a bottle about a month ago. I just tossed it and took another one. Am I going to be all died now? Cold Whee
Yes, sadly. If you leave me everything in your will, I promise to carry on good works in your name after you're gone. Of course, by 'good works' I mean 'pissing it all away on booze and gambling'.

Quote from Requa :
I don't know if I am excited that I have a ton of Excedrin or am weary of all the hard work needed to fill a form for each bottle laugh out loud
I have about 40 packs of excedrin, and there's no chance I'm filling out a separate form for every one of them.

Where the expiration dates are on my noodz?

I can't find anywhere? I don't know if works to me or not? Can halp please someone?
Are you sure your noodz expire? maybe you could use a mirror to check behind them?

Rumor is that there might be some stronger pain medication mixed in the bottles, stuff that addicts like.

Quote :
The reason: those bottles were manufactured in a Nebraska plant that also makes several strong pain medications, including Opana, Percocet, and Percodan, and an FDA rep says, "it's possible that tablets from one product may have been retained in the packaging machinery, and then may have carried over into the packaging.

Thanks & repped you OP. I had purchased oodles of gas-x 10 ct & 20 ct at Walmart when we had the $10/3 coupon.
This link gives exact product names http://www.webmd.com/news/2012010...asx-recall
I just got back from returning almost all of them (called people that I had given them to)
First I called Walmart & spoke with 3 different people. They told me to bring proof that items were recalled. I printed 2 articles from webmd & usa today & also Novartis website info. Thank goodness I had saved most of my receipts because they are on rollback today. I took my receipts for most of my gas-x products and received $242 in cash & $61 in WM GC (they put 10 ct on rollback for $1.98) So, if you want to avoid shipping them back to the company, you may want to check with your walmart to get your money back. Good Luck and you should return them SOON (before they roll them back even more)
Are the 10 count Gas X Preventative? I am not clear on this specification.

So there's not a problem with the actual Excedrin, Gas X, etc. pills. Rather you might get a 'bonus' of some heavy duty prescription pills (which look different) in the bottle. Then why are they bothering with a recall on every bottle? Seems like if you check your bottle and there's no odd looking pills in there, you'll be fine.

I can't even figure out where the NDC or UCC codes are on a bottle.

edit: NDC is super small above the label on a bottle, wow

NDC code is right by the name of the product--on Excedrin it is to the right and above the "Excedrin" on the front of the bottle--it's small but says NDC
