Got a refund on a product I didnt return. what to do?

401 25 January 11, 2012 at 07:16 AM in Tech & Electronics (2)
Ill keep this short. I purchased a rather expensive product recently. I had some problems with my order but the vendor worked everything out and I have the product installed in my home.

I checked my email this morning and I have an email from them saying that they received my return and are processing a refund. I looked at my credit card statement and the refund has already processed.

I didnt return the product but I got a refund. So basically I got a free product. Im wondering what is the worst thing that could happen with this? Can they come back a month from now and say they've caught the mistake and charge me again? Confused

Moral police need not opine.

Id love to hear your explanation of how this is theivery. Look up the definition of theft.

If i get overcharged for a product/service and I dont catch it, is the service provider stealing from me? This happens all the time.

I did nothing other than look at my credit card statement and see a refund. Not my problem they cant keep their own books straight.

You're right, Damsel is wrong. She should have used the word "fraud".

Well, I'm looking at it like he is holding onto something that he does not rightfully own the title to.

Fraud works, too.

I :agree: and even deals that walk you through step by step how to do it aswell.

The usual response is that its up to the store to police any abuse.

Fraud is a deliberate attempt at deception.

He ordered an item , paid for it, got the item delivered how does he not rightfully own it. Once the transaction is accepted and completed its his TV.

OH OP they might try to charge you after the fact but you didnt authorise any new charges to card. So that would infact be theft by the retailer.

If you got an order of Fries at Arby's and it had a curly fry in it...would you take it back up to the counter and return it or eat it?

Theft is theft, fraud is fraud. This is part of the dawg eat dawg world we live in...just as much as it is up to him to catch their over charge mistake, it is up to them to catch theirs?

Theft is theft,
Aren't curly fries technically "fries?" So if you ordered fries, and you got fries, what's the problem?

And who the hell eats at Arby's? vomit

Haha, you have to pay an extra fee for them to curl your fries...so basically you are getting curl for the price of straight, or something you didn't pay for that is unknown to the business.

Fine, Hardies?

what if an employees hair ended up in there.

Maybe telling the store would be the right thing to do buts about as far it goes. It would also be the right thing for AT&T to compensate me for all the time i waste on the phone with them trying to get my bill correct over the last 9 months. It would be nice if they packed my groceries properly and threw the crap out that was left in the carts. Oh it would be nice if Officedepot.com could at least once get my order correct and not have stuff missing or over charged.
