The bottles, insulators, and mason jar thread and other cool finds (even bunnys fans)

Well it was an estate sale but kind of like a hoarders place. The lady and guy running it said there was about 1/4 of what had originally been in there. I got a big industrial westinghouse fan for $3 and an assortment of telegraph insulators an old glass clorox bottle for $4. My wife got an antique mirror they had priced at $25 for $10. she said she could tell by the glass it was old.

Not sure how much these glass insulators are worth but id never seen a green one before and the 2 blue ones were big.
While visiting my son in SC, I went into this little antique shop, and went upstairs OMG the number of glass insulator's that I came across was astounding, and sizes, shapes and colors, and all I could think of that day was you, and you collecting these. I think I picked everyone up to look them over and was checking the prices. I was amazed at them, because of this thread and all the talk about them; as I had never seen one, but due to this I recognized them immediately nod I think you might have been in heaven with what I saw laugh out loud They were everywhere in the upstairs of this place.

I literally found something I was looking for up here where I live, but couldn't find, bought it, and had it shipped home to me laugh out loud

What truly amazed me was the price of old Pyrex bowls, complete sets like I have in my kitchen cabinets Faint I'm like you have to be kidding me $100++ for a complete set, and I'm thinking I'm sitting on some serious money in old Pyrex bowls that I never gave away laugh out loud

This isn't a recent find but I never took pictures of it before. It is a fairly old Walker floor jack. No hydraulics on this baby. If I could find some good pictures of what it looked like new I would love to do a complete restoration on it.

They also had some vintage aluminum ship's porthole's that would have made a great window for the sauna but I couldn't bring myself to spend the money they wanted.

Something kind of like this only what they had looked a lot better:

I have some old industrial parts and equipment catalogs from the 20's through the 50's. If you have an idea of the age, I could look to see if it's in the catalogs.

A brand new Walker Jack was what was stolen from us by a "scrapper" - boy were we pissed beyond words Ranting Long story short - hubby took it and a bunch of other stuff out of his truck at the curbside, covered it all over - to drive down to his Dad's to do something - and within moments a scrapper came by - lifted the cover - and took the brand new Walker Jack - we couldn't catch up with him to retrieve it Ranting And, we never replaced it - they are NOT cheap Mad We are talking a distance of two houses between us when this happened - and that scrapper had to have been watching our house to see hubby do this Mad Hubby learned his lesson that day - never ever to put things like that at the curbside, emptying the bed of the truck, just to quickly run down to this Dad's house. That was a costly loss Frown

That brass lantern and this ship's porthole would be things I would love to have to decorate the one bedroom in my house Smilie I love items like this that are original and have the patina on them. I found a set of oars on CL's for $5 for the set, and grabbed them; knowing they were worth a minimum of $25 to $30 for the pair - they are hanging on the walls as decoration; and they were like brand new.

Today we were talking about his Taper Flex Ski's and saying maybe we should clean them up - and hang them as well - I think his Water Skiing days are over, and they are great looking ski's.

I bought all the stuff to put a bathroom in my basement about a year ago. Nothing fancy, just standard lower-end fixtures since it is just a simple extra bathroom with a shower. After finding the bulkhead light and and thinking about how cool a porthole would be as a mirror I wish I would have gone with a theme that matched that. Maybe a ship's wheel made into a sink.

Find some old ship's rope and make it into towel racks etc. Maybe even coil it up and make a floor mat for outside the shower.

It could be anywhere in that range. All that I know for sure is that it is made by Walker. I thought figuring out a time frame would be easier since it is manual and not hydraulic but Walker seems to have been making hydraulic jacks very early on so this must have been made at a time when the did both. I find all kinds of information on hydraulic jacks but not manual ones. One thing I am going to try is looking at the style of the wheels and see if I can narrow it down by comparing them to the wheels on the hydraulic jacks from over the years. That and maybe the "Walker" lettering changed styles over the years as well.

I looked at the 1920's catalog and they sold all sorts of jacks (including what they called "hydraulic oil jacks") but not Walker brand jacks. However as the business grew, they added all sorts of brands in the 40's and 50's. It's late and I'm tired. I'll look in the other catalogs in the morning and let you know what I find. A quick google image search found a lot of rusty and restored Walker floor jacks but none that had that arched top (looking at the side photo) to them, most were a flat piece on top. Another thing I noticed is they all had a very different plate (not sure what it's really called) than yours does. They all had round or square plates with four cleats that stick up, the plate on that one is ridged and no cleats. Dontknow

I'll check the other catalogs tomorrow and let you know.

No luck. Just finished looking through all the catalogs and most of the jacks they carried were more heavy duty jacks for mining and industry. Sorry. They carried just about everything under the sun but no floor jacks.

Thanks for looking.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe this jack isn't as old as I thought. I figured since it was mechanical and not hydraulic that it was pretty old but that may not be the case. Most of the older jacks, Walker included, appear to be cast rather than plate steel which this one is.
Also, on most of the earlier jacks I have seen the logo, or in this case the "Walker" name was either cast right into the metal or they had a plate riveted on.

What is weird is that I can find very little information or pictures of mechanical floor jacks at all, either very old or in later years. When I get a chance to dig this jack out again from the dark recesses of my garage I will look it over good and see if there are any other markings or a place where an identification tag might have been attached.

The wheels do have the appearance of being old though, but of all the pictures of jacks that I found I didn't see anything very close to these.

I found a forum where there seems to be some people with a lot of knowledge about old jacks and shop equipment that I will sign up for when I get a chance and see if anyone there can tell me what I have.

I picked up a few more things recently. The title still says for glass items but since it started out about an old fan I figured this was still a good place to post. I picked up a couple of old fans. Both need some wiring repair and neither seem to be worth a lot but since I tend to never sell anything I should be into them cheap enough.

The first is a McGraw "Zero" fan.

The second one and definitely the better of the two is an Emerson Electric model 79648-AT. This would have been an excellent find if it had the brass fan blades. It is very heavy and seems to be well built. Hopefully it will still run.

Being a sucker for stuff like this I also picked up an old Fairbanks-Morse platform scale. Surprisingly it still works but I need to figure out how to calibrate it. Now I can weigh stuff up to 1000lbs. Whee No more need to diet Eat

This looks cool and will be awesome if I can get it working. It is a Cassco tire pump from around 1917 as far as I can tell. It would have been mounted on a car and driven by the engine.
