The bottles, insulators, and mason jar thread and other cool finds (even bunnys fans)

Well it was an estate sale but kind of like a hoarders place. The lady and guy running it said there was about 1/4 of what had originally been in there. I got a big industrial westinghouse fan for $3 and an assortment of telegraph insulators an old glass clorox bottle for $4. My wife got an antique mirror they had priced at $25 for $10. she said she could tell by the glass it was old.

But nah, those guys are in it mostly for the money. I just like to collect cool old stuff that captures my interest. What it is worth after I get it is mostly irrelevant because I very seldom sell anything.

I haven't tried either one of them yet to see if the motors are any good. I don't hold out much hope for the Zero fan because someone already stripped the ends of the wires where the plug was cut off. I'm guessing they did that to test it, and if it worked they likely would have just put a new plug on it so they could sell it as working. But you never know.

I don't want to test them here at home because my house still has fuses and it will be annoying if I have to replace any if the fans are shorted out. When I get a chance I will run them to my shop where all I would have to do is reset the breaker if it trips.

I got the tire pump partly apart. I need to figure out how to get the rest of it apart though. There seems to be a lot of play between the crank and the rod so I need to find out if there is some kind of bearing in between or if it just uses a really thick oil. It looks like the piston pin should just drive out and then I should be able to see if there is some kind of retainer for the main shaft or if I can just drive that out with a punch as well. The piston, rings and cylinder look good though so it should work when I get it back together.

We have a really old Walker Floor Jack we are just about to put up on CL's to get rid of,
and another old Floor Jack, we have no clue what make it is yet, that to is going up
on CL's, as we bought a brand new 3 ton Floor Jack recently - and I told hubby these
other two had to go Blush I need him to get them out of the shed, so I can examine the
one we don't know what brand it is, so I can try to find out what it is.

There is quite a bit of interest in some of those old jack so do some research on what you have before coming up with a price for it. That reminds me, I did find a little more information on my mechanical Walker jack that I posted pics of earlier in the thread. I should update that.

This isn't a recent find but I never took pictures of it before. It is a fairly old Walker floor jack. No hydraulics on this baby. If I could find some good pictures of what it looked like new I would love to do a complete restoration on it.

I did finally find out a little bit about this jack thanks to someone on another forum. Apparently it is a version of a Vertilift jack made by Walker.

This one belongs to someone else. I wish I had the handle for mine.

The only thing I haven't found is any more information on one like mine mounted on the platform with wheels. It doesn't look like a home-built thing--it does look manufactured but I haven't seen another one like it.

Those are some of the coolest looking Walker jacks. That second link is where I found the first information about my jack.

Also it appears to be a wealth of information if you are building or fixing up a garage of any type. Lots of good tool information and advice there as well.

This thread on Garage Journal is worth a visit all by itself.

Restored 1930's Auto Shop [garagejournal.com]

I would absolutely love to rescue a place like that with some local history and bring it back to an amazing shop like that. I haven't ever made it all the way through the thread, but he pictures and stories of the work put into it are fascinating.

That was a fabulous restoration and truly a work of love for the guy who did it. I love the sign he put in the back above his tool chests I think it was "Parts and Labor, Cash Only" Rofl2 What a great job he did, it looks truly fabulous Thumbup

Yes, I could spend days and days going through this site nod
