The bottles, insulators, and mason jar thread and other cool finds (even bunnys fans)

Well it was an estate sale but kind of like a hoarders place. The lady and guy running it said there was about 1/4 of what had originally been in there. I got a big industrial westinghouse fan for $3 and an assortment of telegraph insulators an old glass clorox bottle for $4. My wife got an antique mirror they had priced at $25 for $10. she said she could tell by the glass it was old.

I like the colors on that Walker Zero fan

Should i try and get replacement cloth wire for my fan. There are places that sell it.

If the Zero fan worked I was going to try to figure out how to replicate that "hammered" paint and redo it. I know there are a couple of ways to do it. Unfortunately I think that one is dead. I bypassed the broken switch and put power directly to the motor and it didn't run. Eventually I will dig into it further but if the armature needs to be rewound I doubt if it is worth fixing.

The Emerson didn't work either but I done anything but put power to the cord so that one could still turn out to be something simple.

As far as getting the cloth wire it all depends on what you want the fan for. To resell it having the correct wire would probably help in making it easier to sell. I don't know if you would get back any more than what the wire would cost but having it correct would make it more appealing to more buyers.

The same really applies if you want to keep and use it and like the vintage look. For myself I would probably spend the extra time and money in getting the cloth wire if you can find something that matches the original. Then again, if it is going to sit somewhere that the wire isn't even visible that might be a waste.

This Thread is more than 1370 days old. It is very likely that it does not need any further discussion and thus bumping it serves no purpose.

I probably should have started my own thread for the old junk I bring home but I've used this one so many times that I might as well keep it alive. laugh out loud

Posting the pics of my Star Trek belt buckle in another thread made me think of this one. I recently picked up this belt buckle in a pawn shop for $5. I haven't had much luck finding anything out about it but it is incredible and has jumped up to one of my favorite buckle finds in my collection of probably 500 belt buckles.

This is kind of a silly addition to my cat collection but I had to have it because I had this same one back when I was about 10 years old or maybe even younger. I always think of these as bobbleheads but I think they really called them nodders. I might even put some velcro on the bottom of this one and put it on the dash of my car. Blush

Very cool. The buckle is Aldoph Mucha, I think it's a copy but am not certain, antique jewelry is not my specialty. I have a pin that is in the style of Mucha, don't know if it's by him but it has some age to it.

Love the tiger nodder, word of warning about putting it on your dash, the color will probably fade over time and if the car it's in gets hot the 'fur' may start peeling off and/or shedding. I'm old enough to remember when lot's of people had these in their cars and that's usually what happened to them over time. Sadwalk

Thanks for the info. I had tried a couple of variations of what I thought the signature said but I couldn't make it out. It is a lot easier to see in the picture but it would have taken quite a few tries to come up with Mucha. That helped a lot. It must be Alphonse though because that is what comes up when I search it.

Not having any markings on the back is unusual, especially not having the Bergamot logo which seems to be the most popular buckle maker I have seen. I'm guessing that is what you were referring to in saying it may be a copy. I'm not sure what that would mean in terms of belt buckles. I know buckles used to be a lot more popular but it seems strange that anyone would bother to do unauthorized forgeries. And if they did, and went as far as to fake the signature on the front, why not fake the company logo on the back as well? Doesn't matter to me either way as the value or authenticity isn't as important to me as much as the cool factor, which is what caught my eye in the first place.

There are a handful of them on ebay of varying prices and "versions"

This one is probably the best looking one and has a textured back with the Bergamot logo.

This one has the plain back with no logo just like the one I have. Check out the crazy asking price. laugh out loud But even more strange is that there are 20 people watching this auction and I didn't notice any watchers on the others. Maybe they are like me and are following it just to see if anyone is crazy enough to pay that much. laugh out loud

I'm not sure how much I would have paid for the one I have. It was in a locked display case when I saw it and I couldn't see the price but I knew I had to look at it. I expected it to be a lot higher than $5 but I really wanted it. As cool as it was I probably would have paid up into the $20s but most likely would have passed on $30 or more. And I don't think I have ever paid over $20 for a buckle that I recall.

Yeah, I know what happens to the felt when they are exposed to the heat and sun. That will probably keep me from doing it but then again that is probably the best place to enjoy it in action. Right now it is sitting on my desk and when the fan is on I get to see the head bobbing around so that is great. Unfortunately Zeus the cat also sees the head bobbing around and has decided that it is a fantastic kitty toy. Annoyed

That's right Alphonse, it was late and I was tired when I posted. Like I said, antique jewelry (and buckles or other castings) aren't my area of knowledge but I love his paintings and other works so I knew as soon as I saw it that it was by him or styled from one of his works. Either way you got a fantastic deal, it should have been marked much higher than that. Now that I'm awake, I recall seeing something similar or might have been that one exactly years ago, probably 1980's and it was marked higher than that back then.

I guess some of these threads have recent enough posts to avoid the archive, but I'm bumping them anyway.
