Oh, we also have a small fee we pay, $25 for a paper CCW, and $40 for a plastic laminated CCW. They are good for five years and upon renewal, less paperwork and hassle to renew.

I'm not sure where you are located, but the Florida CCW is honored in most states and is good for 7 years. You don't have to be a state resident, and you don't have to have ever stepped foot in the state. They will give you one without a problem, and you may not have to jump through all of the hoops in your state or county.

For a full carry conceal you must prove "proper cause". This has to include a special need for self protection that is "unique" from the general community. So basically DH and I had no issues when we submitted our request because being a sworn in law enforcement officer put us in the unique special need from the general public catagory. We were able to keep them when we resigned and just have to renew every 5 years.

Most people put "self-protection" for their reason but that will only get you an "on premise" permit. And if that permit is honored, the applicant must also take some form of gun saftey lessons approved by the county or county you are in.
