I'm trying to keep from judging people.

I'm a optician and we take Medicaid for glasses. I see a lot of people who come in with 4 or more kids. What upsets me is often the kids have different last names. (like 3 or more different last names) Most of the moms are really young. I just feel sad that its the kids who will suffer in most cases. Never enough money, not knowing their fathers, lack of stability in their life's.

I do have limited conversations with the moms. They often tell me they have no extra money to spend on anything other then what Medicaid will pay. Due to the father or fathers lack of support.

Just venting. Had a young mom with 5 kids yesterday and 4 had different fathers. She broke down and cried when her kids had to wear the frames that Medicaid would pay for. (kinda ugly frames IMO). Her oldest child was trying to comfort her.

My heart was broken. If I had money to spare, I would have purchased the frames for the kids myself. Frown

Okay, I have no idea if the thread is actually on topic anymore, but Iagree It's sad seeing people who are so poor, and their kids go through so much, but the parents themselves still manage to have their nice luxuries. Not that I could tell if someone is wearing designer clothes or anything - I am clueless...

I remember our bus going through the ghetto when I was in school - seeing the kids hop on and hearing rumors about how their house had dirt for a floor... Yet they still had a huge satellite dish and convertible... Ermm


You should tell them to go to Slickdeals, and keep an eye out for deals at Coastal Contacts or Goggles4U. Sure they aren't free, but $6 isn't bad! Smilie
