I'm trying to keep from judging people.

I'm a optician and we take Medicaid for glasses. I see a lot of people who come in with 4 or more kids. What upsets me is often the kids have different last names. (like 3 or more different last names) Most of the moms are really young. I just feel sad that its the kids who will suffer in most cases. Never enough money, not knowing their fathers, lack of stability in their life's.

I do have limited conversations with the moms. They often tell me they have no extra money to spend on anything other then what Medicaid will pay. Due to the father or fathers lack of support.

Just venting. Had a young mom with 5 kids yesterday and 4 had different fathers. She broke down and cried when her kids had to wear the frames that Medicaid would pay for. (kinda ugly frames IMO). Her oldest child was trying to comfort her.

My heart was broken. If I had money to spare, I would have purchased the frames for the kids myself. Frown

That "don't judge me" bulls**t only started with the lazy and pathetic Net Generation (aka Gen Z). Everyone judges people every day. It's what stops us from inviting the crazy homeless guy to dinner. It's what causes us to pull our kids closer when the creepy guy in the mall parking lot looks in our direction. Anyone who claims they don't judge others is either lying or in denial. In other words, judge them; it's your right as a human being. Smilie

I really feel bad for the children. Especially when the mom uses the money to buy herself fancy clothes or drugs/alcohol. You would think after the 2nd kid by the 2nd daddy the woman would have a clue. Everybody makes mistakes - 1 or even 2 kids. I can give them a pass. But 5 different kids by 5 different fathers. What kind of life and opportunity will those kids have in the welfare state?

The worst part of their lives won't be the medicaid glasses they will have to wear. It will be the substandard education and endless cycle of poverty (and lost potential).

I try not to over judge people. We need some forms of judging people, like the creepy guy in the mall parking lot looking at our children scenario. nod But not based on color or disability's. Not things like that.
