laugh out loud I am not an Android fanboy. I love it because it is more open for my personal needs, but I am device agnostic.

I hate the iPhone for killing networks, but I am not opposed to the fact that it sets standards for other manufacturers to achieve and do better.

I'm thinking about getting an ATV, but I'm kind of stuck between that and the Roku. In my opinion, the ATV's streaming costs the same as places like Amazon, but I would imagine it's a higher quality? Like, I picture Amazon Instant Watch like Netflix, where it's pure streaming; ATV, however, I feel would be more like their iTunes Cloud "streaming", where it's actually downloading the movie to play, just not storing it permanently on the device. In terms of quality, I would much prefer the latter over "pure" streaming, like Netflix or Amazon. I'm also a little disappointed about the lack of Hulu Plus, but I figure I can just use AirPlay to link my iPhone to it until the new jailbreak comes out.

Why did you go with the ATV? Any big pros/cons you feel you should make known?
Ohhh...this post. Sorry. Completely blew past it laugh out loud

To be honest, when it comes to streaming content on a HDTV, simplicity and customization is where it needs to hit a home run. A lot of companies fail to do this. I have not personally tried a Roku but I hear it has it's own App Store, but I have my PS3 for hulu Plus anyway, so I didn't need another box. Apple TV however hit it with a home run for me when it comes to combining both and custom media content.

Big, big pro about it for me was that fact that you can jailbreak it and install XBMC. While keeping the Apple UI, so it's treated as it's own "app" (you can also set it to boot automatically into it if you so choose). Pretty much plays *almost* anything I throw at it.

XBMC http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?ti...Apple_TV_2

..now not sure if the new one will do it, but I'm sure in time it will. You can also install your own web browser etc. It works great with a bluetooth keyboard (YES! It has bluetooth. Apple disabled it for some unknown reason). And all bands of Wifi (including 5Ghz) so I was very pleased with it.

If you're into the whole AirPlay thing it also works extremely well. Tried it once on my iPod Touch and it was on the screen literally the next second. Best implementation I have seen. EVER. I think there's some kind of app I can use that it will also recognize my android device but I haven't tried it yet.

I like AppleTV after trying several other boxes because it gave me options. Lots of options (and me being primarily Android for my mobile devices, you could understand why I would want that :lol).

Content is fast and consistent. I could be watching something in three clicks of switching to the device.

I have never used the iTunes portion of it (I DREAD iTunes. I got so fed up of not being able to have the freedom of my media being restricted). But from what I understand home sharing works really great too.

And the apps. Yes you can get iOS apps on it. I primarily use XBMC for apps which allows me more content and media than I could ever dream of, but you also have access to some iOS apps through NitoTV.

It's very easy to customize, and that's what I like the most about it.

However, for straight up Apple device users, it also provides an easy experience ofr iPad, and other iOS devices since they work with one another.

You want this more if you are more conventional media (mkv files, avi files..you know where to get them. I'm not discussing it), for easy play-ability without bitching out. It does it extremely well which is why I use it over other more powerful devices like a PS3 where I have to convert everything to something it "likes" by streaming from a computer.

Best I can say is try it out. Like it, keep it. You will miss hulu Plus if you don't have another device that streams it (I have WAY too many in this house), but you'll be amazed at what this little guy can do.

I throw iPhones into large crowds to find the iFanboys. Big Grin

Seriously all joking aside, I know adding fuel to a fire will come to bite me in the ass, and I hate iFanboys more than anything else.

But I follow the motto of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". I'd say that's probably Windows Phone right now, which I have other issues with but not talking about it. Since Jobs is dead (not talking about this here. Just mentioning it.), "peace talks" have started to open up with Apple instead of the whole "I will destroy Android" motto.

I prefer having an ecosystem where several devices/companies can compete with each other. Sure Apple has taken the offensive the past couple years going into full blown war, but now that *ahem* a primary leader is gone, I expect it will start calming down over the next year or so.

I know that Jobs would have never stood for cating MEOW! out to putting a "4G" icon on the at&t iPhone though. That saddens me a bit, but I'd be a hypocrite to criticize it since I have a Sensation 4G on T-Mobile currently.

Thanks! You pretty much solidified what I already figured was true. Come on, March 16th! Or awesome prices on last-gen models...

I had an iPad 2. I no longer have an iPad2. I have no interest in an iPad3.

My next laptop will be a Dell. I am old and boring.

honestly, the roky has blown me away. It's very very simple to use, the footprint is also very simple, etc, etc ,etc. I have the $50 version (half the ATV, i might add) and it does it all. Granted, it does not stream your files, but that's not what i wanted it for. I wanted it for netflix, hulu plus, amazon, etc...i believe it really rocks. (and in one or two seconds you are ready to watch anything)

i'm not really sure apple will change anything though. Their current methods have worked perfectly for them, so there's probably no reason for them to change Dontknow
and worse yet, apple keeps blocking everything that is not through them, so even if you thin something might open up, they come back and close it even more...I see no good future about apple opening up a bit
