Interesting tidbit the other day. If Schumacher starts one more race, he'll be only the second ever driver to have 300 races.
Other than the crazy start, it was still a pretty good race.
although later we learned Schumi may have been missing a gear, I thought Kimi's pass going down into Eau Rouge was one of the most brilliant things we'd seen all year.
I agree with the people torn on Grosjean's penalty... Maldonado has been running into people left right and center all year, and hasn't received anything nearly so severe, the only thing that made this one worse was that it was early and after hitting hamilton he was pushed right into the other guys

Maldinado and Grojean both deserved the penalty and if we talk about accidents, so does Hamilton. Maldinado is what Hamilton was last year? When he was magnetically attracted to Massa and other cars.
So sad for my boys at Sauber... damn koby and perez were headed for another good day.

Want to make a joke about a red bull guy trying to drive a Ferrari but I'll leave that alone as this is a serious crime.
He served as the doctor and medical chief for Grand Prix racing from 1978 to 2004. Dr. Watkins is responsible for helping move forward improved safety measures in Formula One [examiner.com] racing. He had reason to do so, seeing so many drivers he had come to know die before their time -- die on the track doing what they loved, or soon afterwards in the hospital from injuries sustained on the racetrack.
In one weekend in 1994 at Imola, Italy, the physician witnessed two deaths -- that of Roland Ratzenberger and then, Ayrton Senna. Dr. Watkins writes in Life at the Limit: Triumph and Tragedy in Formula One [amazon.com]the same story told in the documentary, Senna -- that after Ratzenberger's fatal accident, Watkins went to Senna and told him the risk wasn't worth it any more. He could tell from observing Senna after the death that weekend that he was taking it hard. "Let's go fishing," he told him before Senna started his final race.
Senna looked at him and said, "Sid, there are certain things over which we have no control. I cannot quit, I have to go on." As Dr. Watkins puts it, "Those were the last words he said to me."

BBC Sport's chief F1 writer Andrew Benson: "On the face of it, Lewis Hamilton's decision to move to Mercedes is a mystifying one - and that is how many people have reacted to it. But there is a logical argument for going there.
"First of all, Hamilton appears to have lost faith in McLaren's ability to deliver world championships.
"Secondly, Mercedes have pitched him a hard sell - they have argued that Ross Brawn is building a similar dynasty with them to the one he built with Ferrari, who dominated the early 2000s under him.
"They want to build that dynasty around Hamilton. They have also offered slightly more money than McLaren and more freedom to do personal sponsorship deals. It's quite a gamble, though, for a man who professes he 'just wants to win'."

For about the first six races I didn't really like Will Buxton, but I think he's really grown into the role, although I feel they do less on grid interviews than they did before.
I can't imagine NBC would pay more for the sport and provide seriously worse coverage, but I guess we'll find out.
with the name change to fox sports one, I'm more worried about where WRC coverage will wind up. that coverage has always sucked in the US, the current hour per weekend on SPEED sucks, the coverage on discovery HD before that was better, but seriously delayed (two or three weeks, IIRC).
