ON TOP of the phone itself ? I don't think so.

What is it? Social status? My friend has one so I NEED one?

I'll take my dumb phone and laptop any day.

A summary from last time:

Quote from Maleficent :
I think you're just so intent on going against the grain (even though it's illogical, cumbersome, less convenient, and provides no actual benefit to you) so you can delude yourself into feeling "unique" and "special."

In fact, you're so hellbent on going against anything with any sort of mass popularity so you can be "different" that you actually make yourself believe that the crap you have is somehow "better."

And the funniest part about that is that it makes you so angry, you have to lash out at anyone that uses the devices that you hate so much. Which in turn makes you look like a complete idiot to everyone else because of your gigantic delusions, and then you become a social pariah.

Well... bravo, buddy. You certainly set yourself apart from the crowd. Thumbup

This is Slickdeals after all and I have yet to be convinced paying for DATA is a slickdeal.
So don't pay for it and STFU.

I'm not at all convinced that paying for movies or TV series on DVDs or blu-ray discs is even remotely a slick deal when I can stream or download everything I want for free. But that doesn't mean I should keep making threads and hundreds of posts whining about it, especially when it doesn't even affect me and I don't have any place in saying what other people should do with the money they earned. I don't care much if other people feel the need to have smart phones and spend the better part of their days texting nonsense back and forth to each other as long as they don't try to force me to be a part of it.

I still prefer the concept of an answering machine so nobody can track me down wherever I go.

I can understand the appeal for some but it just isn't something that fits into my life. I'm sure I can afford any phone and typical data plan out there but there still has to be some value in it for me and right now it just isn't there.

If it eventually gets to the point where I can get good online access at work I will probably reconsider.

You know what with any other item people could come up with legitimate reasons what they feel that x-dollars is worth the benefit .

Seems with smartphones instead of getting that explanation instead the response is that of an angry mob.

Roll

Hardly. I'd like to see how many people you could convince paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for one car is "worth it."

That's because you posted this same thread months ago, and you got dozens and dozens of reasonable explanations, but you just chose to ignore them all.

But then whoever is calling knows you are just avoiding their call if they know you have a phone with you all the time. Now, even if my excuse of not being home is bullshit they don't know that for sure. laugh out loud

Yeah if "by choice" you mean you either can't afford a TV, or don't have any way of getting that gigantic monstrosity out of your house. LMAO

That's not true. Even if you have a phone with you, that doesn't mean you're constantly available. You could be driving, in a meeting, working, on the phone with someone else, in a movie, etc. I don't think anyone would automatically assume having a phone with you all the time means you're always available. That would seem like a pretty irrational assumption. Dontknow

Here's what you're not getting: If someone else wants to spend their money on a product (no matter what it is) then it's no business of yours......and they don't owe you sh!t. No explanation no reasons no benefit or value claims. Their money not yours. You can spend your money how and where you like with the same autonomy and freedom for products all over the place....just like others have that same freedom and don't have to answer to you or justify a damned thing.

Got it?

As for your obsolete TV....glad you are happy with it since that's all you can afford.

Have you ever seen the picture quality of a direct-view Wega XBR TV before?

Simply for Picture Quality its pretty much unbeatable by LCD or Plasma.... the reason the US moved to those was energy savings and cost... but in terms of which TV produces a better picture hands down a direct view CRT wins...by choice.

Theft proof a plus.

But the time where you would be expected to get the message is generally much shorter. And that is only a minor part of why I don't care to be on the electronic leash 24 hours a day.

Not really. I still say getting back to someone, whether it be a cell or landline, within 24-48 hours is perfectly acceptable.

I've never felt any obligation to return cell phone voicemails faster than home phone voicemails. I typically won't listen to my cell voicemails when I'm out and about anyway, unless it could potentially be about my kid.

Do your friends with cell phones just have some crazy, unrealistic expectations or something? laugh out loud
