I don't understand why everyone is bitching about this.

Shouldn't everyone be grateful that Amazon is now going to be doing all the work for you instead of having to keep track of your purchases and pay the taxes on your own?

Dontknow

Yeah.... I made that argument in TP. Smilie

Yes, I remember who I made it to as well.... let's just say we won't be voting for the same guy this year in the presidential election. Smilie Coincidentally, I've never attacked the rich for being rich or claimed they're not paying their fair share.

Saw in today's paper that the state comptroller reached an agreement with Amazon, forgiving most of the 260+ million TX was seeking from Amazon in back taxes.

Good news is we have 1.5 months left without Amazon adding tax to our orders.

Bad news - Tax time.

Good news for Best buy, walmart and others is that Amazon loses there tax advantage...

The state government(s) are trying to figure out ways to collect more money. Why? recession still in effect from outsourced jobs and inept gov officials.
Cali is a prime example of both.

I know everyone is disappointed about having to pay a Texas Sales Tax on Amazon, but I think it's unfair to totally disregard buying from Amazon altogether.

- Amazon typically offers a price better on many items compared to Best Buy or Walmart. For example, I've been eyeing an iPad 2 keyboard/case and Amazon sells many of the popular ones for $20-$30 less. Taxation aside, you're still saving $20-$30!!!

- Amazon carries brands/items that you wouldn't normally find in a brick & mortar store.

- I'd much rather deal with Amazon's awesome Customer Service instead of dealing with the tools at Best Buy, let alone at Walmart.

I think Walmart has decent customer service. The ship to store people take forever to come help me & sometimes are incompetent and don't know how to use a computer, but...their return policy is almost unbeatable as long as you have a receipt. However....there are always way too many people in Walmart -_-

Walmart is a hellhole that treats their employees like garbage. They also bribe officials so they can build their stores.

I hope the chain goes down in flames...even though it never will.

Amazon is wonderful.

Will amazon have tax in Texas now?
Supriya S:Hello Ruy.
Me:Hi
Supriya S:Yes Ruy, Amazon.com LLC and Amazon Digital Services, Inc. are required to charge sales tax on orders shipped to destinations in Kansas, Kentucky, New York, North Dakota, Texas (effective July 1, 2012) and Washington.
Me:So, now what makes Amazon different from Walmart, Best buy, etc?
The only reason I would buy off Amazon was because of no Tax.
Supriya S:I'm sorry but in this situation the only option for me is to forward your feedback to our concerned department as we are not authorized to handle tax issues.

The upside I see for texans is that amazon will be warehouse facilities to Texas so there will probably be shorter delivery times
