Amazon.com and the Texas Comptroller said Friday that Amazon will begin to collect Texas state sales tax beginning July 1, in an agreement that Comptroller Susan Combs said "resolves all sales tax issues between Texas and Amazon."

In Tennessee they made Amazon send out a notice that people are supposed to pay a use tax or some such damned thing but also said they are not turning their records over to the state government so there is really no reason to comply that I can see.

Wal-mart is no different than every other store. When you live in a socialist country you have to pay the bribes and lobby the gatekeepers to get the things you should have had anyway. Wal-mart is not immune to that. I just moved closer to a Wal-mart so I am very happy right now. Inflation is sky high for foodstuffs and other necessities of living regardless of what the official government number is so whatever I can do to keep those expenses down is a godsend.

Amazon will lose revenue because of this. I make 100-150 purchases a year from Amazon. This will reduce my buying from them 30-40% because a lot of my purchases are made due to the fact I don't pay tax. Tax revenue does not count towards Amazon's bottom line and has to be reimbursed to the state. They will lose money and revenue because of this. And since when is $220+ a share cheap?

While this sucks, you do realize this is not actually Amazon's fault but rather forced compliance with the state? Blame your lawmakers, not Amazon.

I agree, i dont think amazon want this. They know it will hurt them. This will sure drop my order yearly about 30-50%.

It's a bit ridiculous that people are complaining about this considering you're supposed to be paying this tax already. Just because online retailers don't collect tax unless they have business in the state doesn't mean you don't have to pay it. What happens when the IRS starts enforcing this with all online retailers... are you going to stop purchasing online altogether? I doubt it.

This must be the thread where all of the tax evaders come to whine that they will now have to pay the tax that they were always supposed to be paying.

Instead of bitching about Amazon you should be thanking them for all of the years they made it easy for you to commit your illegal tax evasion.

Step 1: look up item on amazon
Step 2: Click on other sellers
Step 3: buy same item at prob the same price with no sales tax, fulfilled by amazon
