Damnnnnnnnnnnnn it California. Maybe no more prime for me when it's time to renew.
Absolutely. No point in renewing. If you order large items, there's the free shipping over $25. If you buy household items, a lot of it you can get shipped free through subscribe and save.

Affected states
Seattle-based Amazon already collects sales tax in five states: Kansas, Kentucky, New York, North Dakota and Washington. But that number will more than double over the next 18 months. Here's where and when Amazon customers will be taxed for online purchases:

Texas: July 2012

Pennsylvania: September 2012

California: September 2012

New Jersey: July 2013

Virginia: September 2013

Indiana: January 2014

Nevada: January 2014

Tennessee: January 2014

South Carolina: January 2016

I have always been sad about the tax thing. Not sure why they do in north dakota. I never seem to get orders super fast or anything. Still I live in a border town. So if I get big ticket items I can always have them shipped to a friend on the other side of the river.

Jesus. . . do you people really buy large quantities of things that Amazon doesn't have a greater than 8% price advantage on? Despite the 8% tax where I live, Amazon still kicks the snot out of the prices I could get locally anyway. . . and I'd still pay tax on them. Does Newegg come within that eight percent often? And if you're buying things that won't still be significantly cheaper even with tax, are they actually slick deals? I'd never flinch at the value of my prime membership tax or not. Amazon doesn't make tax law. And their prices are still cheaper and the orders still land on my doorstep within two business days.

For those who keep asking, the shipping address is what determines sales tax collection. When I send things to family in other states, Amazon doesn't collect the tax.

I buy almost all my stuff from amazon or at least a seller on amazon. They always have the best regular prices. Pluss I love amazon because I can't get anything good in this little town of mine. The only part I dont like is seeing tax free if ordered from amazon. I pay the taxes because I wouldn't get the items I want otherwise.

If I don't have to pay tax on my SSI, why should I have to pay tax on things I buy with my SSI? I get food stamps too and don't get taxed on the food I buy with it.

Curious how they get start dates 1.5 and 3.5 years from now. Seems rather odd in the grand scheme of things.
