RETIRED Marlboro Outwit the West Funny Farm

228 92 October 16, 2010 at 01:35 PM
Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

Great news about your diet working. hug It's so wonderful when your body starts to work the way it's supposed to work.

I'm jealous that you have tomatoes already. There are just blossoms on mine, and a tiny sweet pepper. No rain here in 3 weeks. There has been rain all around me, Mom has had a total of 2 1/2 inches in the last week, ZERO for me and my Uncle who lives about 15 miles away. There was rain yesterday between where we live, but not where we are. Power outage 2 days ago for over 3 hours too.

Good Luck to all!
I looked at NOAA's long range weather forecast and saw only 2 days in April that could possibly hurt them and figured I could cover them on those nights so I planted early!!! Glad I did. Now I have tomatoes and jalapenos and its too hot out there to plant now. Something ate the blossoms off my bell peppers and chomped my cucumber stalks. Im not replanting the cukes but the peppers have already started baby peppers on them. The peach tree went nuts this year and we had to prune alot of the baby peaches off early so the tree wouldnt break with all the weight. Still have about 200 on it and I have no idea what to do with them!!! I dont eat peaches because I dont like the fuzz. Prefer nectarines. Guess I could pick them and make peach preserves.

I don't do this myself, but saw that MTmom wanted to give some to her grandson-perhaps others do as well.

Looked outside and saw where my sister had placed red bricks around a plant climbing all over the fence. I had planted honeysuckle and a couple of different varieties of clematis. Sister ran over them last year. I was so happy thinking that they had come back and she had marked them so she wouldnt mow over them again. Shes actually letting something grow and protecting it!!! Looked closer and it was milk weed!!!!

Sorry if "my" solution offends you. Frustrating... yeah, it's a little more than that. After the work and hrs I put in,,, frustrating is putting it mild. We can and freeze and share more than we keep,, getting nothing hampers all that. Trapping doesn't work, and the few times I did trap some....... relocating is illegal here.... I did it anyway. If I got caught, the fines would outweigh buying veggies at the grocery store

That's kinda how it was 3 yrs ago.... I took 28 of those bastids out !! .... and still got nothing from my garden ! Planted cukes 3 times, total of about 120 plants.. nada ! They shearded them off before the were 6" tall. 24 pepper plants... nada ! They ate all the leaves off till the plants looked like Charlie Browns Xmas tree ! 30ft of string beans, planted twice... nada Tomatoes,, got a few only because I had so many ! Cabbage... nada,, had red and white looking good.. about soccer ball size. They sampled each and every head !!!!! Zucchini and yellow squash... nada !!!
...and that's just some of it, the neighbor had 2 8ft raised beds of lettuce... gone in one day !!! and they grow a variety of diff squash...... not that year !!!
When I was growing up in the country we used an electric wire around the gardens just at groundhog height! Every now and then one would fry and my mom would take it to my great uncle to eat!!
