How do I get pale again?

10,633 2,427 June 9, 2012 at 01:07 PM in Sad
Ok, so summer has started and I have been playing lots more tennis, I mean lots, avg. 10+ hours a week, and even using sunblock I have went up a good 5 shades, I am Chinese suppose to be lighter/light skin, yellow if you wanna say, now I look dark as some of the Hispanic people out there. Anything I can do? My parents get md at me for this b/c they say girls won't like me as I am so dark and stuff, and they always tell me to not play tennis although I do anyway. Anyway, any advice how to reverse this?

Just found this thread.

Any girls who aren't going to like you because you are too dark are girls that you shouldn't waste your time with anyway. If you love Tennis, then keep playing and just enjoy yourself. Don't worry about the outside and just be a person on the inside that others would want to be around... and the girls you meet by being that way, are the ones worth your time.

That tan line isn't too great.

And over the summer I should be hitting the gym some more. So I should slim down more.

Didn't want to get in trouble for copyright you know...
LOL, girls won't like your chubbiness. That's really not too serious of a tan. It goes away when you play enough video-games.

Check out guildwars 2 when it out, or do some evercrack. Whiten you right up

Quote from tresanus :
Very common in asian cultures. Those who are tan are those who work outside (aka poor class).
And Mao FVCKed these guys over during the u know what revolution. hug

yea asians into some weird shit. No fat is not popular. LMAO

In fact we're ahead of you in "looking thin"

Americans really only have large prevalence of anorexic women.

Japan is seeing mass proliferation of anorexic males.

livinglife, OP's parents never said they'll disown him bc he's became dark. You are jumping to extreme conclusions. The way that Asian parents do that is more like advice. Very much like how some other parents would advice their kids not to gain weight or not to dress like goths or not to have certain radical haircuts or not to have tattoos. Or like people telling OP "you can't get a girl unless you're tan".

Every culture have social norms that are held about physical looks. Just bc it's different from the American social norms doesn't make his parents bad people. Every person holds a different opinion on what's acceptable for physically appearance, and culture has a lot of influence on these opinions. You may not believe that skin color matter to the appearance of a person but I'm sure there are some other factors of physical appearance that you deem unacceptable.

Zoe moon, OP's parents Asian belief that pale is better doesn't have to do with race. Don't jump to conclusions. You have to understand the cultural history behind that belief. It's based on class, not race. ALSO, OP said white bc in direct translation from Chinese, the word we use for pale skin color is white. We have a word for pale but you don't use it in reference to skin color. It's just a different language. No matter how fluent we are in English, the Chinese language will have a little effect on our English.

The Americas are some of the few places where the history of its people who stem from different continents and cultures all over the world struggled to coexist together and in the process racial tension became a prominent issue in our country, the US.

That's not so in other countries. For example, in China, there were not much outside nationalities living in our land in our history (LOL, yes, I say "our" also since I am Chinese-American) to have made an influence in the whole culture's belief that the white/pale color is better bc Caucasion people are white. You see, it doesn't even make sense right? Why would the Chinese based their long-held "pale/white" belief off the the Caucasian "white supremacy" belief when the Chinese aren't even Caucasian themselves, and in the past 5000+ years, most Chinese living in China had never even knew the existence of other "colors" of people? If the Chinese belief was linked to the "white supremacy" theory, the Chinese culture would had committed self-hate for hundreds of years.

The Chinese "white/pale" belief was simply based off class structure. The rich never had to do intensive outdoors labor and the poor had to. That was the reason that most cultures in the world's past history held the "white/pale" belief, even the European royalties who powdered their faces hundreds of years ago.
Having been Chinese all my life.. I can say one thing for certain... Fvck the chinese culture, the entire new generation of young chinese believe this as well. They won't say it so bluntly to remain politically correct, but that's the trend.

When was the last time you went back. hug

The thread title is rather interesting. Most people would say, 'How do I get pale again?' Sounds like you're not quite comfortable with your race, which is understandable given your parents take on skin color. I have a friend from India who lives in the states and when her parents came over to visit her they fussed about her tan and told her to stay out of the sun because she was getting dark and Indian guys wouldn't like that. Just be you, do what you're comfortable with. The right girl will like you for who you are inside, not what shade you are. Smilie

Be careful with that, I'm pale skinned too and got burned a few times on my neckline. Once I got up into my late forties, I started noticing that the neckline area has some red blotches and uneven skin tone. I'm sure it's skin damage from those two or three burns back in my 20's. The back of my hands have a lot of damage too, I wish I'd used sunblock all the time and not just at the beach.
You're 40+? and all these weirdos flirt with you over the internet.. guhh....vomitvomit and you flirt back....vomitvomitvomit

what she said. its cultural. look at indian ads. almost every ad break you'll see lightning creams that do the opposite of tanning sprays/stores. i haven't read all of this but IMO there's a happy medium across cultures. if you can tan, the medium look is preferable.

op> i don't know of any davis store that stocks the creams, but if you can mail order them, or if you can suffer through wearing long sleeves it'll help.

The tan isn't even that dark. Telling you to stop getting exercise which is good for you for something as stupidly superficial as the shade of your skin tone is, well, stupid. I hope you can see that. Please keep playing tennis, it's good for you.

Your innocence is endearing (that's a compliment). Glad you got your mirror cleaned. laugh out loud
What innocence, how do you know he didn't hop on a chair and masturbated to bestiality right after posting his mug.

People assuming too much bulb

If you stay out of the sun, eventually your skin will return back to normal. Personal experience and know plenty of others who've tanned because they stayed out in the sun too much.
Actually NO, it will never return completely. Once you are exposed to heavy sun, your body will always continue to produce MORE melanin than it used to.

Well, except for that short time where the Chinese wanted to be like the Mongolians and copied their dress, hair, customs etc. I'd guess that they'd have gone for skin color too, if they could.

Devils advocate aside, you make some great points, but you'd have to be a bit naive in this country to see something posted that essentially says "mom and dad say the darker I am, the worse it is for me" and not expect to get a bit of knee jerk backlash. Right or wrong, that's kind of how the OP came across. And to be honest, if I saw someone posting about how their parents said something along the lines of "no girl will ever want you if you dress like that and wear your hair like that and have a nose ring" I'd have a similar reaction to the people you quoted above.

I don't know about you but I've tanned to an incredibly DARK color before after traveling to hot parts of Asia for over a month and staying out in the sun all day, every day. Its hot enough to boil an egg over there. Eventually my skin tone returned to normal after awhile, after I returned to the U.S. I've done this more than once and never had issues regarding staying dark or getting darker than my original skin color (although I'll admit I don't measure every last shade difference but thats how unnoticeable the difference is if you're arguing the pigment increase is suppose to keep me darker).

While your post was informative and provided a personal experience to bolster what I'm pretty sure is scientific fact, I just feel the need to let you know that you replied to a person who doesn't get bogged down with "facts" and "science."

All I said was the shade of skin sounded like an incredibly superficial thing to care about.

In this post:

Like I said, who cares about what shade of skin color you are.
It doesn't exactly sound like you disagree with me. Dontknow

Just out of curiosity... what do you think about female genital mutilation? How about honor killings? Or mortuary cannibalism? Or slavery? How about racism or sexism? Or other kinds of prejudices?

Shouldn't the title be How do I get yellow again?

Did you check the size of your penis lately? It probably grew due to darker skin pigmentation.
