PET Scan - & Yes I'm Going to Beat This !!!

21,228 1,397 June 19, 2012 at 10:06 AM in Chat
I'm going to have a PET Scan done, and they gave me a list prior to the night before of what I can and cannot eat. Has anyone ever had a PET Scan done before?

I'm curious as this list of what I'm able to eat and not able to eat is rather odd to say the least.

The evening prior to the study eat a meal that is high in protein, such as fish, meat, chicken and eggs. Do not have any bread, pasta, rice or starches such as corn and potato's. Do not eat foods that are high in sugar content, such as desserts. Only green vegetables are acceptable. I'm able to drink plain water plain water after midnight, and the morning of the test.

So I'm trying to figure out with fish, meat and/or chicken - what I am able to add to a meal the night before Dontknow right now - maybe because my mind is a little boggled with everything I'm going through - and I'm trying to prepare ahead of time for this, to get the right foods in the house. I have meat and/or chicken to make the night before. The only thing I can think to add to this is a large salad (for greens only) but would have to leave off many of the usual things they put into the salad where I would normally order this from, onions, tomato's, crouton's, cheese, etc. So I guess I would need to ask for just a plain salad with cucumbers in it, as those are the only "green item" they put in the salad, unless they have broccoli which they could add as another "green item".

I don't eat peas, asparagus, or things like that Yuk So any suggestions for me?

Anyone been through a PET Scan, and had to follow this dietary restriction before?

I've read up on what it's all about and what they will do that morning, putting the dye into me, to see what "lights up" - so I get it, and understand that certain foods will give a false positive on this - hence the restrictions.

Help would truly be appreciated Embarrassment

I just got back from the Urologist/Oncologist and was told that with all the tests and reports that came back, had it not been for the 22 years of testing that I had done; they would have gone with the original "report" and I would be undergoing this operation and having 10% of my singular kidney removed. At this point they cannot definitely say it is not cancerous, but right now they are most pretty sure it is not. They will follow up with MRI's every 3 months, to keep a check on these tumors.

This had to be one of the scariest moments of my life, to be honest, seeing a report like this come back as it did so, after all these years of living with this "condition". Then going through all this testing, and watching all these different results coming back in, that were at first confirming the initial test; then they did the PET Scan and it indicated "no cancer". I needed to see this Oncologist and see what he had to say about all of this; was this truly accurate. As he stated, had it not been for 22 years of prior testing, I would be undergoing an operation at this point in time; as they would not go by these results; but with 22 years of backup tests; they are pretty confident right now **whew** for me woot

Now onto the next doctor on Tuesday, to see if he will confirm the same thing, with all of these results, and tell me the same thing; as the PET Scan also showed "no cancer" for what he is dealing with as well; but the nodule is there on the MRI. So I don't know what he is going to say about this, as the "white spot" is clearly there; yet the PET Scan didn't light up as "cancer".

I'm also going ahead an getting another test scheduled that a doctor failed to give the go ahead for, since he didn't do his "job correctly" - I'm not waiting 2 weeks for him to come back from vacation. Nope, I'm forging ahead with this, called today and set up the test for next Wednesday, since I have the script in my hands Smilie

So not quite out of the woods on all of this, but working my way out of the forest woot

Hey Neo, just because its written on a prescription pad doesn't make the doctor ORDERS a script! Wink

When asked, my wife said they typically write orders and instructions on those prescription pads because ppl are more likely to read them, unlike pre-printed instructions on loose paper.

But best wishes and I hope you gain 5 lbs, in the jiggle area, this week! bounce

Thanks for the best wishes Smilie

It's written on paperwork where all the types of tests are pre-printed and he checked off this particular test, and then wrote the reason for it - so it's not on a prescription pad Bleh It's even more official than a prescription pad script for a test, and he even signed it no less Rofl2 and there is the note in my chart - guess I'm going for the test Harhar Oh, it's a 4 hour test Sadwalk Another one of those LMAO

I'll take 5 lbs. that will jiggle anywhere right now Big Grin
