Jesus Christ, what's wrong with kids these days?
Karen Klein a 65 year old bus monitor is mercilessly bullied and verbally harassed by a group of middle schoolers on their way home from Athena Middle School in Greece, New York.
Here's the video link [youtube.com]. And it broke my heart.
Support has been pouring in and indiegogo [indiegogo.com] has collected over $440,000 for her!
Spare the rod...Spoil the child. I'd like to slap these kids silly.

In the disturbing video, the children can be heard yelling at Klein, calling her an "ugly fat ass" and telling the widow, "you don't have a family because they all killed themselves because they don't want to be near you."

...holy shit. Almost every single image involves her (the 68 year old bus monitor).
That's insane.
A.The lady deserved it? She should not have been a bus monitor?
B. The kids should be disciplined and this is a huge parenting failure?

Maybe there is hope for humanity.
Reading through this thread, I was astounded to see people actually saying that she deserved it!
Or is this the American way? Maybe I was just raised differently? Ofcourse we fought and and teased when we were kids but we knew that we had to respect our elders and treat everybody like a human being.
Talking like this to an elder was unfathomable for me. I could never imagine doing something like this...in the same way how I could never fathom inter-dimensional beings. It's just something that would never enter my head.

I don't think anyone felt she deserved it. I think they (or most of them) meant she was the adult and should have stood up to the kids and kept them in check. But then someone pointed out that her job may not allow that as some monitors are not there to control the kids.

Fast forward to a child who I used to babysit for, she went to juvenile hall for pegging a hole puncher at her teacher's head, knocking the teacher unconscious, and sending the teacher to the hospital to get 4 stitches. Her mothers response was to have the child removed from the teacher's class because the teacher and the child had differences of opinions. What 11 year old girl doesn't have a different opinion then their teacher?
I worked a lot with preschoolers and with pre-teens over the years, and I learned that if their parents are strict when they are young and teach them respect that they grow up to be decent pre-teenagers. If their parents have a lax attitude about things, then their children grow up to be the same way. I could always tell when a child was going to be a problem, and then would confirm that the parent was the problem after meeting them. There is nothing worse than you describing an out of control child to a parent, and the parent saying "well we haven't figured out how to handle her at home" or "she does that at home too". Or like today during lunch this screeching maniac toddler who screamed the whole meal and the mom thought it was cute to say "aw what's a matter at the top of her lungs over the boy".
They require fingerprinting, background checks, and classes to be an educator, heck I even went through training to teach Sunday School in the past, to teach kids three hours a week, and yet anyone can have a child at any time without any checks or classes, SIGH!

B. The kids should be disciplined and this is a huge parenting failure?
And why is B a loaded choice?
For that matter, why isn't A 2 separate choices.
Or even better, why can't we have part 1 of A and part 1 of B as a choice?
Everyone is so quick to blame parents over every mistake a kid makes. I think the problem "these days" isn't with kids or parents, but with people that have ridiculously unreasonable expectations of what you can teach a kid. Does no one remember childhood? Just because you never made a mistake as heinous as this I'd be willing to bet you had a friend or at least knew someone that got wrapped up in some sort of mob mentality incident that you would have sworn they were never capable of.
If everyone here blaming the parents has an answer to how you can teach a kid to break the cycle of escalating group mentality, I'd really like to hear it.
As to this generation being in need of corporal punishment to help it out, I'm pretty sure that corporal punishment was allowed pretty much since the dawn of time as a way to discipline; and yet crime, murder, world wars, etc all seemed to still happen. I'd really like to see an explanation to that one.Maybe the guy who assassinated Franz Ferdinand needed just one or two more beatings when he was a kid.
Why be surprised at this type of behavior?
