Since we are on the topic of weddings, may I ask for some suggestions about gifts for the bride at the bridal shower? I'm thinking of getting the bride some gift certificates for SpaFinder so she can pamper herself. Does that sound like an appropriate gift? It's confusing to me to have to separate wedding gifts vs. bridal gifts, and the gift certificates is the best thing I could think of. The shower is next weekend, and I just received the invite. So it'll have to be something quick and easy that I could get since I can't really shop in-stores right now. Thanks in advance for any feedback and suggestions!

Is she registered anywhere? Just a tip. If she's registered at Macy's and you buy something off the registry, a $20/$50 coupon prints with it for use on a future purchase, even if it's something small. That may help with the wedding or shower gift. I bought her $5 hangers from the registry and then purchased something bigger with the 20/50 coupon.

Do spafinder gift cards expire? I'd be worried about getting her something that expires with the wedding coming up. This may be a busy year for her.

thanks for answering my question. Smilie at least i got a cert at all, i suppose, even if it's only for use in store. the good thing is it's valid till mar 2013. i should probably wait.

Nope, I don't think asking is necessarily cultural. I've read in magazines and online before that the bride will ask formally and give you a small gift as a favor to be her bridesmaid. I think it's Western tradition? It seems like she's having a very Western wedding. At least that's what it seems with BMs paying for everything.

I believe the BMs will be throwing the Bridal Shower and paying for the Bachelorette party. Definitely no strippers for this gal, so I'm thinking it will be more chill. I don't see her as going to the Vegas type either...? I'm not sure about this though. I remember your strippers story shake head

So far, none of the girls have responded to my email about when we should probably start thinking about these things since April is right around the corner, so I'm thinking that they are kind of gonna be lackluster. Ehh.. I hope that's not the case though.
they probably don't want to start thinking about (including emailing) until the time comes. you should just ask the bride! generally bridal showers are about 6 weeks in advance, and bachelorette parties are maybe 2-4 weeks. you can probably find all the info you need online. are you the moh?

that sounds like a great gift! it's a stressful time so i think some relax/pampering will definitely be welcomed. of course, some like spas more than others so it's hard to say for sure, but i'm not huge on massages/spas and i would have loved a spafinder gc at my shower since i've been so stressed.

red makes a good point about expiration date, but as long as it has 6 months on it it should be ok. i would hope it'd be valid till after the wedding/honeymoon, but depending on how far away her wedding is, she may even find use for it beforehand (to destress).

Thank goodness? Sort of? That I'm not the MOH. MOH is her sister. Who is in school. In Tennessee. So this shall be interesting how all this will be done. I kind of expect her to not really be here for anything. She suggested that all the BM register on some random site to share calendars when we all use gmail and can just do a shared calendar Dontknow I hope no more strange requests like that will follow.

And those are some pretty packed times! Faint

I'm pretty much just not going to do anything for a while. I'm going to see how they all are. Cause I feel if everyone is putting in so-so effort, I'd do the same. Why stress out and go over the top if no one else is willing? I'd want her to have a fantastic wedding, but if no one else is gonna want the same, then, oh well. I am not her coordinator.

I've decided to order the Seamed Short Coat in Camel http://www.express.com/seamed-sho...pro#jsLink, since it will be so cheap. I remember you girls discussing this before, but don't remember how you felt about it. Blush Is there a reason I shouldn't order it? Also, my Express orders came with more coupons today. They're obviously still sending them. bounce

It adds more padding to the bottom of the shoe. So slightly more bulk because I get the gel insoles. I think it's fine though because it will work with shoes that are 1/2 size too big. I find them really comfy.

I went ahead and got the foot petals. Seems more useful to me since I have a lots of shoes without and I suffer from the slipping problem on some shoes.
Thanks. I'll pick up the gel insoles. Hopefully, they'll make the big pair fit better.

Quote from nerdgirl :
i use foot petals for those heel grippy things. those are awesome and help some pumps fit better. for ball of foot, i tend to use dr scholls. they're more squishy and help my feet deal with being in stilts for longer. the tip toes foot petals aren't as good imo. the express ones look like the clear gel squishy kind tho (i think?) - that's the kind i like. it does make shoes a bit tighter.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try Dr. Scholl's too. I haven't noticed my shoes being a lot tighter with Foot Petals, but the shoes I used them in weren't already snug by any means. It may be a bigger problem with my new shoes that I still need to break in. I've ordered some of the heel cushions too. I may need 2 or 3 for the shoes I plan to wear on Halloween. I need to do something to keep them from falling off, when I walk. laugh out loud

Yea, I didn't know the girl who threw me down..but I didn't know a lot of the other family members at the wedding, either. Many people were from out of state. There were so many of our friends there that the friends just sort of stuck together. Of the remaining people, I didn't know who was a "family member", "friend," or "date." However, I didn't realize that the bride and groom didn't know that girl either! I thought it was pretty gutsy for the bride and groom to even ask for a redo, considering most people in MN aren't really like that. Crazy....
I've never heard them ask who the bride wanted to catch the bouquet. Most people wouldn't even try for it, after hearing the bride say she was throwing it to a particular person. In the end, I guess it doesn't matter. If some Crazy girl wants it bad enough, she's going to do what she can to get it. shake head

Regardless of how it turns out, you're a great friend to care so much.

Where does her sister go to school? I'm just curious, because I grew up pretty close to some of the schools in TN.

Hope the foot petals work! I am hoping that they do too!

Her sister goes to Belmont University. I think it's in Nashville?

I'm a sucker for planning and wanting to make things perfect because I'm a perfectionist. But I understand I'm working with 3 other girls...so I can't pull the boat. I can be the one that's the most "there" for the bride as much as possible.

I have never heard of getting a formal invite to be a bridesmaid. I have received a gift from the bride, but it was usually a necklace or something to wear for the wedding. I gave necklaces to my bridesmaids and gave liquor flasks to the guys.

My sister is having a bridal shower/bachelorette/bachelor party all at the same time. We are inviting 160 people Faint That is a lot of people to be at her house in the end of October. I think she practically invited everyone who is going to the wedding to the party at her house. Then she didn't even want to register for gifts. She just wants cash. She is Crazy But everytime I say anything she gets mad at me. So I'm just keeping my mouth shut. I can't wait for it to be over.

Belmont isn't in my area. It seems like an odd choice for someone from Cali. Was it a religious choice?

She'll end up with a lot of gifts she didn't want. Some people refuse to give cash & will just buy what they think she needs. If she specifically asked for cash, some people will be offended, & won't give anything. Staying out of it is probably your best bet though. Wink

Nope. She's going to Pharmacy school. It's one of those things to go wherever school takes you Smilie Otherwise, yeh, weird to be what I consider the middle of nowhere.

I'm lucky that it's fine in Chinese culture to ask specifically for money. Makes things easier I feel.

I'm looking for new jeans and would like to take advantage of the percent-off at Express, but was there a mailer recently? I don't have a $XX off $XX online code and can't find any of my mailers... although we just moved, so they may have been mistakenly thrown away. Frown
