What's up with the N word? Keep it out of the Podium please.

12,738 11,124 July 20, 2012 at 06:48 PM in Question
It really bothers me when black people or for that matter anyone uses the N word.

I was walking into Wal-Mart today, when I passed a group of five young black kids. All I heard was N this and you F-ing N. More then once in the short time it took me to get out of ear shot of them.

My question is if it is an offensive word for a white person to say it, what makes it less offensive for a black person to use it?

If I would have been walking past them with some of my white friends and called one of them a N In front of them, I would more then likely would have had to defend myself.

I'm not a big fan of Barack Obama, but I can't imagine him using that kind of language in private with his black friends.

edit: clarification, at least not new barack obama. Back during his coke/smack/weed days, absolutely.

When they say it to each other it's said like "brother" or "homie", when a white person says it is more like "ignorant _____". Although if it was said like "what up ___" from a white person they would still take it the wrong way..Dontknow

Simple difference is the racism double standard that exists in society. Racism is something that is solely against blacks in todays society.

It's about context. I've heard high schoolers of asian, latino, pacific islander, middle eastern, and even white decent use it in a non-racist way.

I don't understand why is context such a hard thing to understand.

But if you say N word, everyone know what word that is. So it's in their mind already. Just say it. Word.

I agree, I find it extremely unpleasant when people use "brunch" around me.
LMAO

But also, when people men use the word rape casually. "Yeah bro I really got raped on that deal." It makes me want to send them to prison for a week so they'll never use it out of context again. Evil

i didn't read the whole thread but here's what i know.

"nigga" is the slang for "censored" used in a friendly way amongst friends. kinda like "yo homie or hey bro"

whilst "censored" is the derogatory and offensive term op speaks of.
