Meeting people from the innerwebz

10,953 434 July 28, 2012 at 06:48 PM in Question
Has anyone ever met anyone they only know from online? How was it? Awkward? Fun? Unexpected? Interesting?

How would you feel about someone you've only talked to online and on the phone staying with you the first time you met them?

Someone I have been chatting with online/on the phone for 6 years is coming to town and staying with me for 3 days. I feel like I know her well online, but I'm not sure how I feel about her staying with me for 3 days. I'm excited about it, but apprehensive at the same time. It doesn't help that I have a touch of social anxiety to begin with. Then you hear horror stories about people who you thought you knew online being false. Thoughts? Is this unwise? Experiences?

I've met a few folks from SD here IRL, and we had a good time together. I am what I am, is what they found out; not much different IRL than what I'm like on here. Every time we travel and I think we are going to go through an area of someone I know quite well; I tell them about it; if they offer for us to make a stop; we do so to do a meet-n-greet. Sometimes it's dinner, sometimes it's just sitting chatting before we move on; so it could be anything.

I know 4 couples that met online and married. They all said it was a lot less expensive than actually getting to know each other through RL dating. laugh out loud

I met my wife on Match.com. At the time it was pretty scandalous when we told people that we met online but now it's become so ordinary that no one thinks it unusual in the least...

Seriously though, I have a personal policy against mixing internet activity with real life. Well, other than Craigslist. laugh out loud
Yeah man, fark that.

I don't want people to think that I am the same online as I am IRL. Yes, I am weird but I not as weird.

I met lots of chicks from the interwebz back in the early to mid 90's. AOL got me quite a bit of action back then. Big Grin

I was gona call bullshit that no other guys but me used the internet for hookups. MUD and everquest got me several physical encounters. WOW was great for phone\voice sex.

Quote from chewspam :
I met up with someone I met online when I was 14 or 15, and I'd be happy to put pretty much anyone in the lounge up for a night or two if you're passing through VA.
You'd be happy to but the wife would say no?

Met my eventual wife online. From chat room to real room in about 18 months. Moved in a few years later and married a year and a half after that. Still going strong so the internet can work if you take your methodical time.

Met up with 2 on line friends, separate occasions, both females. It was a little scary at first, but was just like being with a regular friends after a few minutes. We are still great friends to this day. Pretty easy to cross that barrier. Relax, have a good time and post here about it! laugh out loud
