Meeting people from the innerwebz

10,953 434 July 28, 2012 at 06:48 PM in Question
Has anyone ever met anyone they only know from online? How was it? Awkward? Fun? Unexpected? Interesting?

How would you feel about someone you've only talked to online and on the phone staying with you the first time you met them?

Someone I have been chatting with online/on the phone for 6 years is coming to town and staying with me for 3 days. I feel like I know her well online, but I'm not sure how I feel about her staying with me for 3 days. I'm excited about it, but apprehensive at the same time. It doesn't help that I have a touch of social anxiety to begin with. Then you hear horror stories about people who you thought you knew online being false. Thoughts? Is this unwise? Experiences?

No, I've never met my online friends in real life. Sadwalk But some people from a group I use to play MMORPGs with have met up in the past. They all met up in Las Vegas a couple times, but I was too young (poor) to go.

Now that I'm older (in other words: I have money), I don't have any internet friends to go visit. Down

I think there is only one or two of them I would allow to actually stay in my house with me, though. And I doubt they'd want to anyway.

I was on a political forum a few years ago and got to be friends with a small group of folks. One of the girls in the group got "involved" with one of the guys in the group. They had an intenet relationship for close to a year and then finally decided to meet up. He flew her out to California for a week but she only stayed 2 nights. She called me from his house in the middle of the second night and said he was such a freak, she snuck out to his garage, found a hammer and was sleeping with it next to her head, one eye open, door locked. laugh out loud

She sent him out for something from the store, called a cab and got the hell out of there. He stalked her online for months after that. If you've ever seen the movie "Sleeping With the Enemy", she said he was just like that guy (the bad guy), right down to playing creepy music and his canned goods were all lined up and faced forward.

Yeah, good relationships can/do evolve from the internet, but so do bad ones.

You couldn't save a story like that for after she was already here?

I met up with some folk IRL when I was playing WoW all the time. Also, when I was younger I met up with someone that talked to on-line for a while.

You should probably set up webcams in the lingerie pillow-fight area house. For safety.

I have met several people from the internet. I am a member of Jeep/rock crawling forum and a bunch of us meet up once or twice a year for a weekend of camping and climbing big rocks in our Jeeps.
