One of the worst examples of sportsmanship I've ever seen in my life.
Her coach should have smacked her upside the head.
I don't know the NBC commentator who jaw-jacked for 20 min before hand how Mrs Prissy Bitch was "so much better than everyone" else, but he should be fired immediately.
Not a shred of empathy for this over-privileged little sourpuss. What are you 9 years old? Try to remember this next time you fall flat on your ass: "gracious in victory, humble in defeat."

I can understand that was the last place she wanted to be and the last thing she wanted to be doing but that is a moment where you step up and put on a smile and congratulate the one that just beat you. There is plenty of time for beating yourself up and being depressed, but at that level of competition you put on a good face and move on.
Kind of like in hockey with the Stanley Cup Championship, I'm sure the losing team just wants to get the hell out of the building after the final game is over but they all line up and shake hands and congratulate the winners.
Actions > words.
I guess sometimes emotions are hard to control and we can't expect too much from a teenager.
I can't imagine what kind of pressure these young people are under and so what if she couldn't smile. I can't imagine how she didn't just fall apart. Shame on anyone who think she should have done more.

And there have been many great examples of it in this Olympics, just as there are in every Olympics.
Tonight in the men's rings competition was a great example. The guy that had the best performance didn't get the gold. The guy that won had a few mistakes and everyone pretty much expected him to get the silver. But the judges apparently thought differently and he ended up on top of the podium. The guy that should have won the gold came over and put aside his disappointment and congratulated the winner and shook his hand. It didn't look forced and he looked sincere even though I am sure he was extremely disappointed in the outcome.
But at the same time I'm not going to come down too hard on McKayla. She ended up looking pretty bad in the hug incident but I think it looked a whole lot more negative than it probably was. I think most of the time she just has a look of being kind of cold and unemotional and in that particular context it just looked bad.

Oh, I definitely agree that it's sportsmanship, but it's about competition too. These are the best in the world and you don't get to the top by being okay with doing less than your best. I would think that her attitude has as much to do with disappointment with herself than anything else. I know that I get way more mad at myself when I mess up, than I do at anyone else that does better. Certainly, she could have eeked out a phones smile and hugged the victor with more gusto, but being completely exhausted and disgusted with yourself can take you places you wouldn't normally go. I haven't heard of this behavior from her, but it may be her MO. Who knows?

Marta, Bela's Karolyi's wife, remains the National Team Coordinator for USA Gymnastics. He did not retire, btw, Bela was "removed/banned." I don't know if they still do this but the USA Gymnastics team was required to train and/or hold trials at a facility on the Karolyi's ranch for the Oympics for many years.
You really think Marta wont give her shit for getting silver?
2) Not winning gold means you miss out on sponsorship deals. Some of which can be quite lucrative.
3) The average Olympian makes $15,000 a year and most have no sponsors going into the games and must pay out of pocket for every expense. The United States Olympic Committee rewards Olympic medalists with honorariums. A gold medal brings $25,000. Silver medals get you $15,000. And a bronze is worth $10,000. Some of that money goes to the Tax Man, boys and girls.
The Weekly Standard, a conservative news magazine, ran the numbers and tabulated that the tax bill on a gold is $8,986, silver is $5,385 and bronze is $3,500." When you factor in coaching, gym time, travel expenses, and missing out on sponsorships, it's pretty depressing.
4) This isn't swimming, folks. This kid will not be able to go for several more games. She may not make the next Olympic team.
5) She's a 16 year old kid with tons of hormones. It took her over 10 years to get there and she fell. Not in front of a few thousand people either but in front of the world.
6) She can have a loving and supportive family but they put a lot of money into her training and she didn't make it. So she must feel like she let herself down and let them down.
Screw you, OP. If you don't have anything better to do than pick on some kid you know nothing about in a sport you obviously know nothing about then get a life. She's going through enough right now.
but then again another stuck up white girl didn't get what she wanted... color me shocked ....
actually that girl from Russia is far more of a bitch so to say compared to the americans.....

You can't be a coach if you are never allowed on any floor in any event again....
