I got a free gun today!

It's just a pea shooter, nothing very big. My Husbands childhood friend was in town today and they went to a gun show. His friend bought me a gun, so I can join them the next time they go shoot some targets. Whee

Rough rider single action revolver.
Caliber: 22 LR, Long
Barrel: 9"
Capacity: 6 Shot Cylinder

you can buy a gun for a person who is allowed to own a gun. you can't buy a gun for a person who isn't allowed to own a gun. that's it.
Sort of. You can gift a person a gun who can own one, but you can't buy it for them using their money. No one will find out such minor details unless you tell them, and if you both can legally own guns then it shouldn't matter anyway, but that's how it is.

Also, you can gift a person a gun in the same state without going through an FFL, (except if you're in a commie state), but guns gifted to people of different states requires going through an FFL. If you live in Arizona and your brother lives in North Carolina, you can't just give him that gun that's been sitting on your shelf collecting dust for 20 years.

These kinds of laws rarely if ever get enforced, but they do exist if someone wants to give you a hard time. Thanks to dumb laws, there's a whole lot of unintended "criminals" out there.

What state do you live in where you can give a gun as a gift? Who is the gun registered to? Just curious not trying to start shit. I'm not a gun person so I don't know all the ins & outs of ownership.
The Firearm Owners Protection Act forbids the U.S. government from keeping a firearms registry. Of course, some states do their best to keep illegal registers, as does the federal government.

Speaking of things like eTrace...

Another computer system (eTrace) is available on the internet - world-wide!
BATF reported (in 2007) some 10,000 individuals representing over 1620 law enforcement agencies around the world (now over 2,000 agencies) have access to our firearms data.

Your detail personal information and information on your guns is directly available to 31 foreign governments, including close cooperation with governments having known corruption issues. Trace requests have also been received from 58 foreign governments (some with terrorist connections). Mexico and Columbia have each been provided with their own in-country tracing center with full access to BATF's records.

This is all state specific. In MD any gun that requires paperwork and a 7 day waiting period (all handguns and pretty much any rifle accept hunting rifles) you would not legally be able to gift to anyone without going through an FFL or direct through the State Police. The fact that you pay or not for the gun is totally immaterial. Any gun that I can go by and get the same day, like a shotgun, you can gift with no FFL involved.

Other than if you buy a gun with someone else's money for someone else it's a straw purchase and a felony.

However, I have seen many gun dealers who won't sell you a gun UNLESS IT IS FOR YOU.

Happened to my dad.. he took his GF to a store to buy herself a gun... the dealer thought she didnt know much about guns and assumed she was purchasing it for my dad. My dad laughed and pointed at his carry permit and another gun he HAD JUST BOUGHT FROM ANOTHER DEALER (proving both his and her ability to buy and own a gun). The second dealer didnt care and told him to buy it somewhere else, he would not risk a straw purchase..

This was in VA

I don't blame him. VA is a common place for asshole Bloomberg's goons to set up stings.

Agree hard to blame the dealer, he has much more at stake to lose when doing a bad sale.. However if he were a little more informed he would've got some more business that day

He may live by the motto "better be safe then sorry"

Not only do I think it's pretty, but I have one that is almost identical to it, along with another cylinder like yours has. Time for us both to go shooting together. When I set my eyes on this Ruger Single 6, I said I had to have it Grin Mine's in the original Ruger Box, along with the receipt showing what the original owner purchased it for Faint

Nice pickup Applause
