RETIRED Marlboro Outwit the West Funny Farm

228 92 October 16, 2010 at 01:35 PM
Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

Today's Travel Channel Trivia Question!
What's the name of the valley in central Greece where you'll find monasteries built on rock pillars?
You Answered: Meteora

CORRECT!

Holy Monastery of Varlaam, Greece
Perched on a cliff 1,224 feet above central Greece's Meteora Valley, the Greek Orthodox Holy Monastery of Varlaam stands in tribute to faith -- and engineering precision. Built on natural sandstone rock pillars in 1541, Varlaam is one of 6 similarly constructed monasteries in the region

It really is a different world of internet, no kidding. nod
My sister switched to DSL years ago because she couldn't get dial-up any more. She raved about how great it was and, because I'm not proud, I tried it too. Unbelievably wonderful. bounce There is NO way I'd be able to enter this many contests ...... and the giveaways? I get right in and snag something. Mind you, I have the lowest possible level because I'm cheap, but at $16 a month (a mere 53¢ a day) it is money more than well spent.

My cable -- basic only -- cost that much and I cancelled that about 4 years ago. If I want to watch something -- news, movies, TV shows -- I do it all on line at no additional cost. I can do research and download photos and in general amuse myself no end -- all for 53¢ a day. DSL is one of the brightest spots in my life -- after the cats, of course. nod

I totally agree! It has been at least 5 years, maybe 6 now, since I had cable. I do not type fast enough to get most of the giveaways, but sometimes I have my son do it if he is available.

Ok, When I bought this, he said they don't have phone connections in them anymore, so I had to buy external modem. It plugs in back of computer and phone line plugs into it. Is this the kind of modem you're talking about. It comes up in device manager as USB Modem. What is the next step, can I go onto Aol.com and order it up from there?
I just want to chime in about phone DSL vs cable DSL. Let me start out by saying that I have NO idea how it works in your area, but in LA, you do NOT want to go with cable. In case of emergency, phones, gas and electricity are always the first things fixed. The last thing they bother about is cable. I've had friends who, after an earthquake, didn't have cable and thus internet connections for days. The rest of us never lost a minute of service. So....it's something to think about, depending on where you are. nod

Well, I use Roboform -- another worth-the-price item. Again, no way I could enter as many contests/giveaways without it.

Ah yes. You're probably sitting down when most of them happen, and we all know what a hard a** you are so you didn't even notice. Oh well, Happens that way, moving west. Heard anything about the Wilton deal yet?

Won a $2 coupon and a stadium seat from Charmin.
You can win once a week-this week, they're giving away 250 of these.

Good Luck to all!

DSL here for just over a year. Dropped the home phone and went with dry loop DSL (uses the phone line). It is sooo much faster.
I was able to install the service by myself. I've had 6 service outages during this time-without DSL for 4 hours to 4 days. Each time that I reported it, they wanted to send a tech out, each time, it was their fault and no tech needed. Kind of frustrating. Still use AOL, just went to the billing screen and checked that I had my own connection. So, AOL is free, no home phone-the bill is now less and I also have not cable. If there is a show that I really want to watch, I watch online.
