Fall 2012 new TV shows

Yawn

The one new show that I really like (have only seen two new shows so far) is Major Crimes, they've really broken out of the old show and come up with fresh and very interesting story lines. Emily Owens M.D. looks really good (from the trailer) but doesn't air until Oct. 16.

The only shows that look remotely interesting IMHO, are Revolution (maybe, needs more than one episode to judge), Vegas (Mike Chiklis/Dennis Quaid).

Of the rest...Arrow (doesn't air until Oct.), 666 Park Avenue (maybe, interesting premise), Elementary (UK Sherlock ripoff), Last Resort (?), The Mindy Project. Yawn

Doctor Who is a highly-rated, international hit, and they still only make 13 or 14 episodes a season. Well, I suppose they do make a Christmas episode or whatever too.

I gave Copper I think three episodes. It visually looks good, (though dark and dreary), but it's... zzzzz. It needs more car chases or something.
I tried giving Dr. Who a chance with that hot, blond girl, but it was too slapstick and campy for me. Given the show's history, I think it's only on now out of tradition.

Saw episode two of Revolution, I'm warming to it but need another episode or two to see if it will be a hit.

You sir are died to me!

They're not all slapstick and campy, there are some really serious and very good episodes. Can't be serious and scary all the time, a little camp breaks up the show some. And until you get to David Tennet you haven't seen the best of the show. nod

with a few exceptions, i don't start watching shows until they're 2-3 seasons in. just hate starting a good series only to see it die without a good conclusion. i'm still catching up on Breaking Bad (just started season five) and shows like Boardwalk Empire, Community, South Park, and all the animated comedies are starting up again this sunday, so between those, football (assuming the real refs come back), and other older series i want to watch/catch up on (Deadwood, Rescue Me, An Idiot Abroad, Parks and Recreation, etc.), i don't have time for unproven shows, over half of which will be gone by december.

fortunately, no series i've seen so far has really seemed worth watching; Go On looks too glib for its own good and has the Friends curse, The New Normal looks like a bad Modern Family knockoff, The Mob Doctor is a concept that would only work on a non-network channel, Revolution looks like yet another pseudo-apocalypse that doesn't even have the hook of failed shows like V and Jericho, and Animal Practice just looks like a train wreck. there are others with promise, but i'll start paying attention when the second season gets ordered.

Yep, I agree. That was really the only new show I liked last season. (Once upon a time)
My kids really got into it as well.. That made it more fun to watch.

I couldn't get into Once Upon a time. Grimm is pretty good though.

I watched the pilot of Revolution today. It has some possibilities I guess. I think the key to maybe enjoying this series will be to avoid being too critical of how accurate things are. Just accept what the writers offer as far as what things would be like in the years following an event such as what happens. Getting too picky about whether they have it right would suck any fun right out of the show.

I will give it at least a couple more episodes and see if the story line is interesting enough to keep my attention.

DVR'd that but haven't watched yet. From the trailers & descriptions it sounds a LOT like S.M. Stirling's Dies the Fire [wikipedia.org] (which is the first book in a series about the years following "the Change"). I loved those books so I have really high hopes for this show. I know I'll probably be disappointed though. Down

I liked the pilot of Vegas. Don't think of any of the other shows caught my eye enough to start watching. May be Chicago Fire?

I thought I had that on my Kindle but I just looked and don't see it. I checked that out once (maybe you even recommended it here at one time) and thought it looked like a good read but I guess I never did get it. Do you know how many books are in the series? I'm about due for something different again, although I did just download the latest book in the Jack Reacher series. That will keep me busy for at least a day or so. laugh out loud

I want to say five? He's still writing them. Plus if you read the Nantucket series - which he wrote first but I found after I began the Emberverse - that makes seven or so (I think there are two or maybe three Nantucket books). I wait for them to come out in paperback before I start shopping for Kindle versions so I could be a full book behind.

Stirling has some great alternate histories. If you like that kind of stuff, there are other authors who write the same style. There's a series where the Napoleonic Wars had dragons. woot Stuff like that. And yeah, I probably did recommend Stirling in another thread - he's one of my favorite authors. In fact, his books are why I want to learn to blacksmith - when shit hits the fan skills like shoeing horses or pounding railroad spikes into knives will be in high demand, and I'm not depending on those SCA and RenFaire nerds to save my happy ass!

lol, I didn't even make it past the 30-second commercials for that. But that's fine. More time to watch Xena: Warrior Princess reruns.
