Fall 2012 new TV shows

Yawn

The one new show that I really like (have only seen two new shows so far) is Major Crimes, they've really broken out of the old show and come up with fresh and very interesting story lines. Emily Owens M.D. looks really good (from the trailer) but doesn't air until Oct. 16.

The only shows that look remotely interesting IMHO, are Revolution (maybe, needs more than one episode to judge), Vegas (Mike Chiklis/Dennis Quaid).

Of the rest...Arrow (doesn't air until Oct.), 666 Park Avenue (maybe, interesting premise), Elementary (UK Sherlock ripoff), Last Resort (?), The Mindy Project. Yawn

laugh out loud Yeah but RTD is stretched too thin. He was trying to do Doctor Who, Torchwood and Sherlock all in one year. Just too much on his plate, which I think is part of the reason they stopped doing Torchwood.

Season three of Sherlock is supposed to start shooting early next year. woot
I don't think RTD had anything to do with Sherlock.

Plus he wasn't even doing DW anymore when Sherlock came out.

Animal Practice or Guys with Kids are my bets Ok
If I understand TV correctly, Animal Practice has too much backing to get canceled as quickly as it should.

I'm going to go with Mob Doctor. Nobody is talking about that show at all.

That's a good choice but I think Guys With Kids might beat them to it, that or The Neighbors.

Doh That's right, Sherlock is Moffat (another really busy creative genius), not RTD. However, RTD's last season of DW was 2010, the same year the first Sherlock episodes came out.

There's some terrible show called "Presidential Debates" on right now. I will not watch a second episode of this. Nono

I wonder if it will be canceled before or after The Neighbors?

I'm hoping both main actors on the show never work in this town again.

But, either way, new Supernatural yay.

CAn't do it. I watched a new show or two last year only to see them canceled after a handful of episodes.

And network tv these days is just horrible with an exception or two.

HBO, Showtime and AMC seem to somehow be able to produce good shows on a consistent basis. And not cancel them after less than 5 episodes.

The networks are stuck in comfortable mediocrity.

Revolutions is pulling in solid ratings for the second week to help NBC win the day [thewrap.com], rating wise. It still needs a boost in viewership to validate being kept though. 8.4 mil l just will not be enough and ratings tend to decline after the novelty has worn off and the initial pub has fizzled.
i heard a pretty good piece the other day about how shows like this are trying to emulate the success of Lost where there were prominent continual plots across multiple episodes as opposed to contained plot arcs in each episode in a common setting. the problem is that, unless you get huge, your first viewing is going to be your largest; viewers get confused when they try to jump in on episode three or four, and there are always going to be a number of people who just don't like it, so you're left with dwindling numbers.

the only way to counteract this is to make it enough of a cultural fixture that people put in the effort to catch themselves up on back episodes by themselves. the availability of the past episodes is better than ever, but with the ever-expanding TV landscape and (some would argue) shortening attention span of viewers, getting a show to the point that the viewers have the motivation to do so is becoming more and more difficult.

of course, it doesn't help that, for the most part, drama on network TV sucks because of the censorship limitations and advertiser/sponsorship influence, but that's another post.

After watching several episodes of Major Crimes, I have to say, it's way better than The Closer ever was. The first couple of episodes, I wasn't sure about the show but it just keeps getting better and better. nod

So watched the first two episodes of 666 Park Avenue and honestly it kind of reminds me of a Stephen King TV movie that just keeps going. It's got a lot of potential and promise and can even go the route of basically having new management/protagonist victims each season. However, these ratings [ew.com] will need to get far better and far quicker if it expects to go through multiple seasons of its storylines.

I have a feeling the whole show is not so much about the characters but the environment and the setting. Hell runs a hotel and is the conduit back to hell for those deserving of such punishment. Think of all the vile characters or semi-deserving characters or even the half-wits that caught a bad break that could come and go. Reminds me of Tales from the Crypt mashed with Stephen King.

Sort of like a Fantasy Island run by the devil.
