All I see is a bunch of retards pretending to be PBS viewers because Mitt Romney doesn't like PBS and wants to get rid of the CPB.
Seriously, fark the whole lot of them. I hope they all die choking on ham sandwiches.

I think you are misunderstanding me.
![]() I hate the all of the people who are part of the new PBS is cool, and I am also cool because I watch PBS trend. The old viewers, the ones who are loyal viewers are the ones that I have real respect for. These people, the new fans are no different than the people who didn't care for/hated America before 9/11 and suddenly became neocons right after the towers were brought down. And just so you know, I watch the newshour ever night, and most of the their primetime programs. I've got much love for my local PBS and NPR stations even though they have tried to censor programming and love to pimp the catholic church on their channels. |

I guess I'm not surprised. It's available without cable which some people can't afford and well.......fark those people right? Ayn Rand would be proud.
Obligatory:
If people don't want it / would rather watch 20 hours of sponge bob a day, then they won't watch PBS, ratings will die, and the station will go out of business because people really don't want to watch it.
I agree 100% in letting the market decide.
EDIT:
How people don't find at least something to watch on PBS is beyond me.

EDIT:
There's the stuff! Someone did mention it already.
Come on, we're talking about 0.012% of the federal budget. Pick something that will make an actual dent in our spending, not PBS. I suspect it was a very clever ploy to drag people into this pointless argument so we wouldn't focus on what Romney really intends to cut from the budget. He claims he has a plan yet he won't share any specifics.

Clearly the private sector has spoken and would rather have their children watch Dora than a green curmudgeon in a trash can.
It doesn't matter it is "only" .01%...you need to start somewhere...why not start in a place that has hundreds of competitors?
The point is that we shouldn't be borrowing money from China to fund it. If there is so much support for it and the shows are something that people want to watch then PBS should easily be able to generate the funding it needs to keep it on the air without subsidies from the government.
Forcing PBS to compete with other stations would likely even improve programming and improve the quality of the shows that are aired. Currently there is no need to step up and make improvements because the money is going to keep rolling in from the government no matter how little effort they put in.
It's a lot like General Motors. They got into trouble by making cars for years that nobody wanted to buy. Instead of letting GM fail and forcing them to restructure under Chapter 11 and change the way they do business Obama bails them out with taxpayer money and essentially gives more power to the unions and "saves the auto industry" And what happens? GM continues to build cars that nobody wants to buy like the Chevy Volt and the only way to get people to buy them is to subsidize the sales with even more taxpayer money and money borrowed from China.
PBS has plenty of good shows that should be popular enough to compete with other stations. I say give them a chance to prove they are worth keeping around without the subsidies.
PBS makes enough money to support itself. It doesn't need any help.

It's an example that was made to get the discussion going about the role of government. I think that Romney is right, and eliminating funding to many, many federal programs is going to help us get on the path to solvency, but he most certainly did not say that cutting government funds to PBS would balance the budget. Anyone making that claim is being disingenuous at best.
It's not just Sesame Street that's in jeopardy here. I currently watch Masterpiece Theater (also Masterpiece Mystery, Classic, etc.), the Oregon Field Guide (great program if you're in the PNW), Great Performances, Nova, Antiques Roadshow, Austin City Limits and This Old House. So there's a lot of entertainment for the adults too. And yes we donate as much as we can afford each year.
But again, why won't Romney tell us about the big ticket items he intends to cut? That concerns me. FWIW, I'm an independent and before you try to say otherwise, I have voted in past elections for both Democratic and Republican candidates.
Edit: Don't forget too, that 0.012% covers not only to PBS TV broadcasting but also the radio stations, which have some brilliant and original shows. Like This American Life, Radio Lab, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, The Moth, The Tobolowsky Files, etc.
Does he care that we are funding a military plane that will never fly and been on the books for over a decade? Nope
But that liberal PBS need to be shut down... He had plenty of other gov't waste to make examples of, yet he chose to attack PBS
