All I see is a bunch of retards pretending to be PBS viewers because Mitt Romney doesn't like PBS and wants to get rid of the CPB.
Seriously, fark the whole lot of them. I hope they all die choking on ham sandwiches.

I think you are misunderstanding me.
![]() I hate the all of the people who are part of the new PBS is cool, and I am also cool because I watch PBS trend. The old viewers, the ones who are loyal viewers are the ones that I have real respect for. These people, the new fans are no different than the people who didn't care for/hated America before 9/11 and suddenly became neocons right after the towers were brought down. And just so you know, I watch the newshour ever night, and most of the their primetime programs. I've got much love for my local PBS and NPR stations even though they have tried to censor programming and love to pimp the catholic church on their channels. |

people are asking why PBS compared to the numerous other pork ass crap that our gov't waste money on that could be used as a better example that needs cutting
Why use PBS as a example
But they're likely more specifically addressing Frontline, which is an interesting show, but is definitely skewed (they had one on Dick Cheney entitled "The Dark Side"
not to mention that show Religion and Ethics is runned by a liberal talk host, who isn't against homosexuals, hispanics, muslims, pro-israel, or enforcing anti-choice on people ...
Yup PBS need to be shut down NOW
Sure, I like some PBS shows, but I consume so little (even TV in general), it's just cheaper for me in the long run to buy what I like on Blu-ray.
And I agree with you OP, people like to point out their pseudo-support of PBS, but really, how much does anyone really consume to make it worthwhile?

I'd like to see the number of federal and state works significantly reduced... even purely through attrition so you don't take the immediate surge of people unemployed.
I'd be willing to bet that if state/federal benefits were put inline with private sector (and none of that "only new employees" grandfathered crap... everyone), menial redundant tasks performed by people were eliminated/automated, you'd be able to cut state/federal payrolls by 25% right off the bat. I know a number of people that work for the state (NY) and aside from the generous benefits they tell me how they're consistently given about 2 hrs of work a day and then the rest of the day they sit around or goof off in the office playing minigolf etc...
Cut out all the dead human weight and bloated/unnecessary agencies and programs and you could probably buy big bird a rolex and get oscar a golden garbage can...
Does he care that we are funding a military plane that will never fly and been on the books for over a decade? Nope
But that liberal PBS need to be shut down... He had plenty of other gov't waste to make examples of, yet he chose to attack PBS
tl;dr- PBS needs to compete on its own. little subsidies add up to hurt the overall budget.
This looks a lot more like podium discussion and I usually come around the lounge for easy reads. Sorry for the little rant lol.
Now I wish they would cancel Fresh Beats Band...That stuff murders my ears.

All that corn we consume, are also taxpayer funded and subsidized
PBS relies on both private fundraising and yes gov't money.
But to say PBS is pure gov't funding is nonsense.

previous poster said something like 12% is government funded. Why do they deserve the 12% is what I am asking. If a company can't succeed without assistance, and they aren't something that is needed in every day life, why do they deserve any government handouts?

Why should the government be subsidizing any private industry? They give money to the farmers to grow corn to burn as fuel in our cars and all it does is raise our food prices and certainly hasn't done anything to lower fuel costs. Even with the subsidies it still costs more to use E85 instead of regular gasoline.
The biggest argument I hear in defending PBS is a list of shows and how great they are. And I agree with many of them. To me that says that they should be able to generate enough revenue to stay on the air. I would be willing to bet that without continuing to get the free ride they get now that the shows would get even better and would reach an even larger audience?
For people wanting to continue the subsidies, why do you favor limiting the audience to what it is now instead of trying to expand it to reach even more people?
