All I see is a bunch of retards pretending to be PBS viewers because Mitt Romney doesn't like PBS and wants to get rid of the CPB.
Seriously, fark the whole lot of them. I hope they all die choking on ham sandwiches.

I think you are misunderstanding me.
![]() I hate the all of the people who are part of the new PBS is cool, and I am also cool because I watch PBS trend. The old viewers, the ones who are loyal viewers are the ones that I have real respect for. These people, the new fans are no different than the people who didn't care for/hated America before 9/11 and suddenly became neocons right after the towers were brought down. And just so you know, I watch the newshour ever night, and most of the their primetime programs. I've got much love for my local PBS and NPR stations even though they have tried to censor programming and love to pimp the catholic church on their channels. |

Why should the government be subsidizing any private industry? They give money to the farmers to grow corn to burn as fuel in our cars and all it does is raise our food prices and certainly hasn't done anything to lower fuel costs. Even with the subsidies it still costs more to use E85 instead of regular gasoline.
The biggest argument I hear in defending PBS is a list of shows and how great they are. And I agree with many of them. To me that says that they should be able to generate enough revenue to stay on the air. I would be willing to bet that without continuing to get the free ride they get now that the shows would get even better and would reach an even larger audience?
For people wanting to continue the subsidies, why do you favor limiting the audience to what it is now instead of trying to expand it to reach even more people?
The thing about PBS, if they didn't have that subsidy then chances are they would have to allow commercials to pay for the cost of the programing. When you do that, then the variety of shows and the less commercial shows will suffer. I don't think any commercial network would have agreed to put Sesame Street on the air back in the 1960's. Think of what other shows would never have made it to the air if they hadn't been given a chance on PBS.
Unfortunately these are the things that should have been considered before the government started spending more money than it took in. We can't run our personal budgets this way without it eventually catching up to us yet nobody wants to make the tough choices to try to bring things back in line with our government.
There is always something else that should be cut instead yet when that suggestion is made there is someone else ready to prove why that is wrong as well.
We should be willing to accept that the government should be run in a responsible manner the same way our personal budgets need to be. This country is heading for financial disaster and cuts will have to be made somewhere, whether we like them or not.
The point is that we shouldn't be borrowing money from China to fund it. If there is so much support for it and the shows are something that people want to watch then PBS should easily be able to generate the funding it needs to keep it on the air without subsidies from the government.
Forcing PBS to compete with other stations would likely even improve programming and improve the quality of the shows that are aired. Currently there is no need to step up and make improvements because the money is going to keep rolling in from the government no matter how little effort they put in.
Issue the second:
TLC used to be The Learning Channel. It was founded by NASA, among others. Later, it was privatized. Now it's full of garbage like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
Do we really want that happening to PBS?
I've watched PBS my entire life, starting with Sesame street and including, in no particular order, watching Masterpiece Theater, Monty Python's Flying Circus (KERA in Dallas was the first station to air it in the states), The Ernie Kovaks Show (reruns), etc.
I also listen to NPR most days, often on the radio but some of their shows I catch on podcast.

There's many other things to be cut before worrying about PBS.

As for the millions of mindless programs such as Honey Boo Boo, that is noone's fault but our own. If fools that have some need to feel better about themselves by watching this garbage didn't watch HBB, Jersey Shore, and the likes, would it still be on the air? And then it turns into the snowball effect "inspiring" our kids to be just as "cool" as these idiots.
I do agree about the defense budget though. I just read an article about the trillions (with a "tr") of dollars spent on the F-22 and F-35 to not do much more than a few training exercises and be grounded due to mechanical difficulties to this point. I'm not saying that we don't need a military, but for the price we've paid for it over the last few decades, we could of probably bought half the world...or better yet...spent that money feeding, educating, and helping them which would more likely make them allies as opposed to bombing everyone and making more enemies. Two planes flew into the twin towers, and many Americans developed a hatred for anyone that resembled a person from the Middle East. Can you imagine what we'd be like if another country invaded us, took over our skies, bombed us repeatedly, etc.? But it's okay if we do it in the name of "democracy"? ...which in itself is a joke, because we don't even have it in the sense that it was intended.

Cut ALL govt spending by 35%. The shit that cannot survive the cut will die off and not be added back into the spending pool.
Until we can get back on the road to financial stability, we need to make some deep cuts. The size of our government is out of control and gets bigger each day. Our kids can't read, we import our food from around the world and yet pay our farmers to not grow crops, and we keep bailing out companies instead of letting them take responsibility for their own actions. When will enough be enough?
There was a thread somewhere where some of the biggest corporations in America DO NOT pay a single dime in taxes and in fact actually get money back from the gov't... And PBS is cannot be funded...
But hey we can keep funding the TSA who continue to steal and molest travelers daily, the gov't can keep funding ATT&T wiretapping program, we can continuing fund a drug war and other wars that never end, oh and we can even keep our troops in countries that aren't even a threat..
The list is endless as to all the porky waste our gov't drools out, yet PBS is on the firing line...LOL!!!
Haiti used to be a country that was rich and well off with a strong sugar economy
Mexico used to be a country whose chief crop was corn and had a strong corn trading economy
Then the USA came in and installed sugar tariffs and subsidized cheap Monsanto modified corn, and Haiti is now one of the poorest country in the world with high unemployment and Mexico main cash crop is now DRUGS.....
Isn't the USA awesome
Don't worry that messily $450,000,000, will be put to good use, I hear Romney is ready to engage Iran in war and to arm the Syrian rebels and send in our troops, he need all the "war" ( literally ) chest he can
