[I want to preface this by saying this is not meant to be a thread throwing blame at one side or the other...there's an entire different section for that. This is just to get people's feedback on recent news....]

Never thought I'd use the words secession and viral in the same sentence, but that seems to be the trend on Facebook and Twitter over the last few days. It seems as though the government has received petition requests from at least 40 states (different articles report different stats) and over 700,000 people and steadily rising.

I'm just happy to see that people are finally making the progression from backroom murmur and rumblings to now be willing to sternly voice their displeasure with our current system. I don't know that a secession will actually happen, but I do believe that this is a step in the right direction for the people to pave their own futures.

It's actually hard to find results from the larger known media outlets as they don't even seem to be reporting on it.

I'm sure most of it is just idol talk but some of these people have already said they want to start a civil war over this. Starting a war or turning your back on your own country is treason. Starting a Petition to secede is most certainty treason because they are turning their back on their country.

Comfort I wont begin to say I know what you've had to go through. All I will say is I've liked men and women my whole life. When I dated women people treated them and myself horrible. I live right in the middle of the bible belt. So you know I would hear I was going to hell a lot. I would get spit on and so on.

It takes a strong person to be who they truly are. I do not agree with the masses on what constitutes love or marriage. I wont say who people should or shouldn't date based on gender. That is what is partly wrong with the world...people are scared of what they do not understand. If you ever need lube PM me. Wink

Then your are incorrectly defining the word treason. Also, there is a lot of insinuations that all of the petitioners are just the sore losers from the election. However, I haven't seen a single fact that proved that. I've seen a lot of speculation, but even overwhelming speculation does not equal fact. Isn't it also possible that the election was simply a catalyst to something that's been brewing in this country for a while now? How do we know that a good portion of the people supporting these petitions don't share similar views as myself, in that both sides are corrupt and people want to only truly secede from this entire government? I don't know either way. I could be the only one who thinks like this, or I could be in the majority... but there are a TON of people out there on social media coming to conclusions based only on assumption (not facts), and jumping on that mob mentality bandwagon.

Straight from the horses mouth... The author of the Texas petition, who is a UTA student and 5 year Marine veteran, claims that his petition wasn't in response to the presidential election, but to address many of the issues in Washington.

So, at least one person backs up my prior statement that it may not all just be a bunch of Obama haters like much of the media would like everyone to think.

It is my opinion you don't have to like it. I find it quite disrespectful to all the Soldiers who lost their lives to protect these ungrateful people. Have you read these petitions? It is the same people signing each states petition. If these things were such an issue why wasn't this done prior? In my opinion these people are making us all look like we are all ungrateful and a bunch of racists.

In my honest opinion it was done because their party didn't win. Then you also have the tea baggers brainwashing the smaller minded people into signing these petitions. Do these people not realize what they would actually lose if this happened? They would lose everything including their freedoms. They would be run by dictators. Our Forefathers would be rolling in their graves right now.

I don't think it's fair that you speak on behalf of the soldiers, as there are many varying opinions in the military as well. Many of which we will never hear due to fear / repercussions, but there are also tons that have spoken out against the war and the policies / priorities of out government. I'm not attempting to speak for all of them either, just stating that the entire military doesn't all share the same views.

And again, you mentioned "these ungrateful people"... as if you're privvy to some facts about them and their motives that the rest of the country is not. If you are, can you please share? Otherwise, I'd recommend you watch the link/video in my last post and ask yourself whether or not you believe that the 5 year Marine vet that started the Texas petition sounds unpatriotic....or if it actually sounds like he truly just wants to see a better America than the one we have now.

Did you not read it was my opinion? I don't speak for anyone but myself. These people could have peacefully protested about their issues at any time. They however did not. I like you, Mr. Pirate and I agree with a lot of your views. If it makes you feel better, I refused to vote this year because I didn't think either candidate was the right choice. I understand people are frustrated but hiding behind a computer being pissed off isn't going to solve the issues the United States of America has.

Yes I read that. And my reply was just my opinion that I think sometimes conclusions are drawn based on false pretenses. Anyway, my points/views are almost never to try and strongarm anyone "onto my side"....fark, I don't even know what "my side" is half the time. But if no one talks, then it makes it near impossible to understand different viewpoints...which is why I'm glad many of us are.

Well, even better then. Don't get me wrong, I'm an Obama supporter. I was just trying to preempt the claim that Obama was responsible for the size of the deficit.

True. I also think some of the problems now stem from lack of communication. I just think people tend to jump the gun too quickly. Don't worry I am on my own side and I have cookies. Whee But hypothetically speaking, What if Obama took these secessions seriously? What would these people do then? Would they actually be happy if they got what they asked for?

The letter sounds pretty damn egotistical to me. Sure it probably expresses the views of a lot of people, but all it conveys is a condescending tone such that anything not "governed" and "protected" by the US government is doomed to failure. There seem to be a lot of countries out in the world that are doing just fine without the US government...some even doing much better than us in varying aspects.

And as for the second pic...so someone snapped a picture when the people were likely just getting themselves organized (which you can infer from the guy looking down at the sign), and then all the propaganda specialists run with it as if to say, "look at these guys...they're dumb...hahaha". I know that both of you guys are smarter than this. Why perpetuate this propoganda? I'm sure both of you can find much more valid points for supporting your disagreeing opinions than just following along with what the rest of the "dimwits" (quoting MMM) out there already do.
