The Official Car Talk Thread

I suppose can continue the conversation from the Funniest Pics thread here, along with any other car talk..

Quote from Jabbit :
The SLS is pretty nuts, I have seen a couple on the streets and they sounds almost musclecar-ish. I also saw an Enzo at the car show (it was actually Cars & Coffee in Irvine CA which is pretty well known). I would like an older M3, the last one that had the inline-6. I have never been in one but they seem like they would be a lot of fun. Not really practical in New England though.

We should start an official "Car Chat" thread.
That enzo is awesome. I spotted a 599GTO at F1 as well. There were a few people leaning up against it taking pics. If I was the owner I'd have been pissed.

BMW is bringing back the straight 6 for 2013 (or maybe 14).. They're doing a twin turbo version in the name of fuel economy. There was rumor about there being a third turbo in there too.

Both are great cars, but the GT2 RS has more power/torque than the GT3 RS, and is therefore a slightly better track car. At Nurbrgring, GT2 RS got a lap at 7:24, while the GT3 RS is slightly slower at 7:33 (same driver). Again, both great cars, but I'd give the slight advantage to the GT2 RS. Stick Out Tongue

For station wagons, we really don't have much. I mean I'd take the E63 AMG wagon, or the CTS-V wagon, but what else is there (maybe BMW 3 series wagon)? Not really a huge fan of the CLS Shooting Brake, at least from all the pictures I've seen. Maybe it'd be better in person :dotnknow:

I guess I just get bored with cars that you can just drive off the lot if you have a thick enough wallet. If I had a plentiful amount of play money I would more likely be building crap like this laugh out loud

laugh out loud that's kinda awesome. Hooning around a field in that would be a blast. I'm not as handy as I want to be with cars.. but my project car that I eventually want is an old Triumph TR6. I'd rather it not need a from-the-ground-up restore, but something that still needs a good bit of restoration that I can work on and call my own would be great.

I've still got the same project I started 16 years ago--my '63 Chevy Stepside Pickup. For most of that time I didn't have the money to do it the way I wanted so it just sat. Now I have the money and I can't seem to find the time to work on it. Right now I am trying to finish insulating my garage so I can work out there over the winter and hopefully get it back on track. I've got thousands of dollars in parts sitting in boxes scattered around at my shop and at home.

Hopefully you can get working on it again. I'm waiting til I have a garage somewhere and a bit more disposable income to feed into the project. I could buy one fully restored for around 11k, but I'd rather work on one myself.

Found the specs for my work truck engine.

78 Liter (No decimal in there--that's 4735 cubic inches)
3500 horsepower @ 1900rpm
10,157 lb-ft torque @ 1500rpm
12 Turbos
18 Cylinders

Anything smaller just seems silly now laugh out loud

Wave Landers!!

I just noticed your thread and avatar!! Did you get a Porsche you savage??? Evillaugh Do you remember I posted a while back that I located the guy that owns my husband's prior 928? He was willing to sell it but I decided against it because he wanted a bit more than I was thinking and one of the issues it had when my husband owned it was still going on and this guy had been in contact with Porsche for over a year trying to get the part and they finally told him it couldn't be located or made by them and he would have to find it used somehow. It was something in the dash that made warm air blow out all the time.

He loves his Boxster but he still wants another old 928 someday laugh out loud He's been going to the Porsche dealer on and off the last few weeks to take a look at the 2013 Boxster. We've seen one on the road but not another at the dealer yet.

If you are interested, he gets gear and stuff at Porsche Direct online. I'm actually going to order him a hat he wants and whatever else for Christmas. I guess it's a 75th anniv hat. He has alot of the Martini Racing stuff. He's also a member of the PCA and they do cool stuff like the autocross....the last one got cancelled that he was planning on.

So I have to tell you this. He got the Top Gear GPS. We went to Albany last week and I about died listening to that farking thing!!! He made a wrong turn and it said..."You've cocked up! Pay attention!!!" in Jeremy's voice Rofl2 There was a bunch of other random shit that was awesome. I think there was something about staying away from oldsmobiles every time we got on a highway. Anyway, if you like the show you would love the GPS.

No Porsche yet! I'm on the two-year plan to pick up a Cayman though. Pay off the BMW, put some extra savings to put down and find a CPO 2013 model that comes in off a lease or something.

I remember the thread about the 928. Too bad it was still having issues Frown. The new Boxster is the best looking Boxster they've made. Same with the new Cayman. (which is why I want the Cayman.. hehe). He should totally go drive the 2013 Boxster S and let me know what he thinks!

Speaking of PCA.. The PCA down here is going to be doing a track day event at the COTA track. My buddy has a 911 and is considering going down for the day to play around on the track. He's pushing me to buy a Porsche ASAP so we can do track days and stuff. I keep telling myself I need to be patient. laugh out loud

That Top Gear GPS sounds awesome. If I didn't have in-dash Nav I would totally look into getting it. Having Clarkson yell at me as I'm driving around would be hilarious.

Bunny you would farking die!!! laugh out loud I'm going to ask him later what some of the other really funny things are. Actually just his voice in general, giving directions is so much better than those mechanical, robot bitch voices on the regular GPS.

Good for you High Five That's the way to do it. Take your time, and do exactly what you said with paying off the BMW and saving up to put some cash down because you will not be strapped over a car and you will be able to enjoy it! The Cayman is sweeeeeet!!!!

Yeah, he says the SAME thing about the 2013 Boxster. I know that's why he's stalking the dealership lot so he can test it. I will report back to you on what he thinks when they get one. I don't think he's looking to trade his but I know he's loving the new body style. I drove his a couple of times and it's pretty amazing. It handles well and damn....that little farker is so smooth you have to watch your speed LMAO

What gets me is that my H2 has 390+ HP and a 6.2 L engine yet that little tic tac would leave me in the dust. I know, I know, it's weighs like 10 tons less Roll

I'm sure you will have so much fun with your friend at the PCA events. My husband has a good time....says there are a few dickbags that show up at events that think they're above the world but he doesn't pay any attention to that BS. He goes to have a good time and just enjoys what he worked hard for.

So, I need you opinion on a possible trade in my future. I'll be back in a bit. wave

BTW what kind of BMW do you drive? Do you like it?

Sure, just lemme know.

2008 328i is the current car. I actually love it. Sometimes I wish it had the power that the 335i has, but honestly I don't need that, and this generations 335is have had multiple issues with the wastegate on the twin-turbos. Mine does have the M-Sport package so I've got a slightly tuned suspension and paddle shifters. Makes it just fun enough for a daily driver that I can enjoy each time I get in it.

328i has been BMW's bread and butter lately. Solidly built car with very few issues. 75k on the clock here and when I took it to get a pre-purchase inspection my mechanic said it was the cleanest 65k+ BMW he'd ever seen. Sold me on it right there.
