The Official Car Talk Thread

I suppose can continue the conversation from the Funniest Pics thread here, along with any other car talk..

Quote from Jabbit :
The SLS is pretty nuts, I have seen a couple on the streets and they sounds almost musclecar-ish. I also saw an Enzo at the car show (it was actually Cars & Coffee in Irvine CA which is pretty well known). I would like an older M3, the last one that had the inline-6. I have never been in one but they seem like they would be a lot of fun. Not really practical in New England though.

We should start an official "Car Chat" thread.
That enzo is awesome. I spotted a 599GTO at F1 as well. There were a few people leaning up against it taking pics. If I was the owner I'd have been pissed.

BMW is bringing back the straight 6 for 2013 (or maybe 14).. They're doing a twin turbo version in the name of fuel economy. There was rumor about there being a third turbo in there too.

Gotta love the taillight.
That is pretty awesome. Once I eventually buy a house I want to buy an old Triumph TR6 as a good project car to work on in spare time.

I would love to know the past life of something like this, and the story of how it ended up where it is.

I bet it was gorgeous back in it's glory days. What are they asking for it?

You're right, I bet there is a pretty great story behind it, but probably a fairly sad one.

How is something like that worth ANY money? I don't understand how any portion of it would be remotely usable.

It's only good as a template, maybe.

Yup I think the Petersen has a good selection of Ferraris and newer cars as they tend to rotate their cars on display. The Toyota GT is nice too, very classic lines like a Daytona.

Any cast iron, aluminum or stainless parts will just need a good cleaning and refurbishment and can be as good as new. nod So most of the powertrain and drivetrain are reusable.

The body would be great for templates, and those can be worth a ton of money for somebody who is missing parts and needs to make new ones from scratch!

With enough money and the right people, if that pile of metal is a famous car, it can from that to a million dollar car in a few years. Smilie

trying to decide on whether i want a stainless steel(304) exhaust system or new tires with better wheels.

would buy the exhaust parts and go to a shop...not sure how much labor is on that but looking at roughly $900 in parts

as for the wheels i want: http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wh...sort=Price and tires i want : http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tir...mpare1=yes

roughly $900 after shipping etc, but i wouldnt have to take them somewhere and get robbed on labor.

i have to pick one or the other. really want the exhaust, but will need tires soon, and if i get new tires and no wheels, will have to wait like another 40k miles before i get another opportunity(want to buy the wheels/tires together)

in other news, i just washed my AEM dryflow filter the other day for the first time. also about to hit 6k on my oil, but mobil 1 goes to 7500 so whatever

What kind of car do you have? Exhaust might be pointless depending on your setup, but wheels/tires are typically a more noticeable change.
