Ok im gonna do it...do not try to talk me out of it! ( buying new car)

After many years of hoopdie cars..I'm going to get a new one...that last 400 dollar radiator did me in on my little car...and with a soon to be 2xxlb 6 foot tall son and a BF its time to get a larger nicer car....I've been driving a 87 crx...so I need more room!

Hondas are my first choice...

I narrowed it to the 2012 EXL 2.4 i owned a 01 with leather and dang it I want that again...moonroof I can do without..but I like the alloy wheels and it does get decent gas mileage

Found one at the dealer with 62xx miles..they wanted 25909..also comes with 100000 honda certified warranty.

Kbb trade in is 21818..,no problems with carfax..and it was sold originally by this dealer and stayed pretty much in this area its been at dealer for about a month...

I have financing at 4.73 with 84 months if over 20000 dollars..I am going to look into refinancing in the future at lower rate. I also get 90 day delay on first payment...

I also average 7000 mi a year..I've been renting cars for out of town trips..family is about 5 hr drive...I see them about 3 to 4 times a year...but I'm thinking more now with newer wheels!

I am ready for pros and cons! I am planning on running this to 200000 miles or more!

Oh and where is the car advice thread? I need to rehearse and get ready to deal with dealer...

Oh boyyy that is a check mark in the "buy a newer car box" Since my car now has NO cup holders...and the "here son hold my drink" is getting pretty old...its reached crisis level!

As much as I loved Hondas back in the day, today's and recent Hondas are no where close to being the best midsized cars. They are not as quality and detailed as they were before especially with their design and ergonomics. Also look at the kia hyundais as they come new with 100K warranty.

Also, I'm not too fond of buying very new used cars as there's something wrong with it for the buyer to return it. And they mark it up for big profits where as you can negotiate the new car purchase at close to their "invoice" with costco/truecar/amex/ carsdirect pricing. If you want the sweet spot for pricing its at about 2.5 -3 yrs used with under 50K miles. Half of the price of the car is depreciated but more than half of the life is left. YOu can drive a 3 yr old honda/toyota for another 7-10 years without major problem.
84 months of financing means you can't afford the car. The max should be 48 months and maybe 60 if they offer very low interst rates. Speaking of, go to Pentagon Federal CU for the lowest rates on car financing. With a small donation you can join PenFed.

Lastly, if you plan on driving this to 200K, go with a Toyota Camry instead.
I do agree about hondas kinda leveling out...my 01 EX was bought in the exact scenario you described in 04. My daughter has it now and its up to 215k last i checked...so we got our moneys worth...im still looking for that "sweet spot" spent hours yesterday and today on edmons, truecar, local dealer, and out of town dealer sites...trying to keep it all straight!

Coupe or sedan? If it is a coupe, be aware you may not be able to look out the rear passenger window from the driver's seat. That was a deal breaker for me in the '06.
Im looking for sedan..it seems like there are more coupes out there new and used! Yeah I drove a Corolla as a rental and didn't like the blind spot or the headrests in back...

This was me last year with a new 2012 Accord SE last December. I think I got either 1.9 or 0.9% financing.

Did my negotiation among three Honda dealers over email. Gotta give me a good price or I don't show up at your dealership...works great.

From my email...(otd is "Out The Door").
---------------------------------------------

Mr. Beartrkkr,

I have gotten with XXXXX he said we can sell the accord at 21500 plus fees that will put us 22367 otd. I look forward to earning your business!!

Wow..see that would work for me! I was just looking at exl...but Ill take another look at the SE as well. Dealer only had the LX and the EXL...

Btw is the SE considered the sport?...on drop downs for trims it lists a sport not the SE. Or there are no more left Sadwalk

Hyundai Accent/Kia Rio. Mid-sized with a 10-year/100k warranty, gets 40mpg, and costs about $14k if you can drive a stick.

Nissan Versa can be dirt-cheap if you can drive a stick. Add an automatic trans and its value starts to slide, though. I'm mainly mentioning it because the interior is surprisingly big.

If you're not deadset on model type for Honda Accords, check out the used car sections of the rental car agencies (enterprise, hertz, etc.). They probably have a bunch of 12's left.

Have you looked at a Hyundai Sonata

"With last year's family-sedan pick, the Nissan Altima, due for a redesign soon, we chose the four-cylinder Sonata as a more affordable alternative to the Camry Hybrid. For less than $22,000, the Sonata provides a roomy, well-equipped cabin, supple ride, nimble handling, and thrifty 27 mpg overall. And despite its swoopy, coupelike styling, the Sonata still provides decent rear-seat room and rear visibility, unlike many other cars today." Price: $21,800.

It's in your price range and got great reviews from CR. For your kind of money, you have options outside the Honda.

Subaru Impreza and Hyundai Sonata to start.

I would make sure you qualify for their low interest at Honda before you purchase. If you're concerned I would look at qualifying for a loan at your bank or credit union first. Penfed has loans for used cars around 1.49%

It looks like it. Can't confirm that the new Sport has leather seats though...

Why buy new? Find something CPO which someone has already taken the initial hit on. You get a car you know is in great shape, less money, limited mileage, and a full warranty still.

Don't ever go into a dealership to negotiate with a salesman unless you have time to kill and not get anywhere. Always communicate via email initially and then by phone for final negotiations after which you only go into the dealership to sign papers.
