This thread is being created so people -- generally, those people who can't seem to resist talking about off-topic junk in the Target coupon thread -- have a place to talk about shopping at Target and other miscellaneous matters.

All you folks who hang out in the Target coupon thread, start hanging out here instead! When you've got something relevant to post about Target coupons, please post about it in the Target coupon thread! We'd love to hear about it, but NOT about your dog, your cat, your mom, your genital herpes, your... well, you get the idea.

Sorry about all the sick kiddos, wishing healthy thoughts everyone's way!

So, I've decided I have the energizer baby...he keeps going and going and going and going. His good naps last week were a fluke that I am sure were a result of his viral eye gunk he was fighting. This week has been horrible!!!!!!!!! He naps for no longer than 5-10 minutes once placed in his crib then wakes up Crying2 I try to calm him while he is still in his crib, but he isn't having it. I get him up and try to rock him back to sleep and he is by this time pissed off at the world. Once I get him calmed down I might get 5-10 minutes of happy baby then he is fussy and Crying2 again since he is over tired. LJ will sleep for 3-4 hours when we finally get him down at night then another 2-3 after his first waking/nursing. Then maybe another 1-2 and he's up for the day...which I call the vicious cycle of no sleep. Normally he doesn't fight his morning naps but he started off kung foo fighting his first nap at 9 this morning...I texted DH it's starting earlier today and he laugh out louded back, I have a Xanax in my sock drawer (meaning laugh out loud for the baby). I did NOT laugh out loud back and said that mommy would rather take it! (not that I would in a million years since I am nursing)

I am by no means a textbook type of parent, but I am at my wits end with this one. I get NOTHING done all day and am exhausted mentally, physically and emotionally. I did what I never thought I would do in a million years...I went to Barnes and Noble and bought "The Happiest Baby on the Block." Now, the challenge will be to find the time to read it. Teehee

hug I'm sorry to hear LJ is not a happy camper. My Mom went through the same thing, with ME... I would not sleep during the day at all, from the moment I got home from the hospital. During the night, the only way I would sleep was if they gave me some gripe water, and they put me in the stroller and my dad would sit in the Lazy Boy (remember this was back in 57, lol) and push the stroller with his foot. They tell me he would get like 4hrs sleep if he was lucky.

This continued into adulthood. I still have problems sleeping. I'm more of a nocturnal person, if it wasn't finally going to a sleep clinic and them having no answers (no sleep apnea or anything) that I finally got sleeping pills, I had no choice, it was interfering in my daily life. Even still, sometimes they don't work and I'm up for 3 days. Frown

If you haven't tried the gripe water on the pacifier, give that a try. Now a days they have so many different things and books... I hope you find something that works for LJ.. so you can get some sleep too. hug

Some may disagree with me, but sometimes Ryan took his best naps on his belly. And both kids slept much longer in their carseat (infant carrier) for both naps and overnight. I would strap them in the seat and then swing the seat back and forth until they fell asleep. hug Sorry it's sucking...hope he starts sleeping more for you soon! Kids just don't appreciate the ability to sleep whenever they want for as long as they want...I wish that could be true for me too!

So the kids slept all day...from 12:30 until...actually the 3 yo is still sleeping but has no fever. The 5 yo woke up with a bad fever and worse cough, so it's off to the ped's tomorrow! Poor buddies...

Just make sure if you do a STFC run that you actually have your head all the way in the car before you close the door and don't try talking on the phone, loading the car and eating at the same time. This can result in a concussion and whiplash. Just FYI

I completely agree with the belly sleeping, my last one would not sleep unless on his belly, but do disagree with letting newer babies sleep in the car seat or swing - unless you are using a neck roll thingy. Those seats dont recline enough to allow for good breathing.

So today DS and I had an hour to kill before our Toy Story 3D movie started so I decided to visit one of the Ts here in Orlando just to peruse clearance. Cashier selection was awesome, BUT all of the cashier screens are positioned right ABOVE the belt scanner. has anyone else ever seen this???? I was shocked. I figured if I was shopping with Otto that he would be tough to disguise. We just walked around a little, got DS a cookie and headed to the movie (which by the way was AWESOME).

I just want to say Thanks all of you ladies and gents Rock

This sounds like what we went through to a T. Andreas didn't start really "napping" until after 2 months and then only b/c I "forced" the issue. It took months of working w/him to get it down and even now we still have rough days.

The Karp book is a useful one though you might also read ugh, what's it called, author is Weissbluth. Mama2cole recommended it to me. "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child." According to him, regular naps don't develop in most kids 'til after 2 months.

I don't know if that will make you feel better or worse. : O
Oh I am not looking for a sleep schedule at this point in time...although he is a few days from 2 mos old. I am looking for ANY kind of sleep during the day. I was also looking at the No Cry Nap Solution book. We'll see how far the current book gets us. I will say that he did go down for me with a slight fight for a midday and afternoon nap. I think the thing with him is his window of opportunity to settle down for sleep is a freaking tiny crack, I gotta CARPE DIEM that crack. But the things I have read thus far in the Karp book have helped me calm him from that siren scream. I have laugh out louded quite a bit in just the first 3 chapters. We were doing all of those things just not to the extent and combined that they need to be done.

: hug: : hug: aww Thrifty.. hang in there. I can totally sympathize with you. My last DD has been the worst sleeper. My other 3 were all pretty good, but she has been so different. She is 20 months and still has bad nights (last night she was up at 4 am and 6 am).. I remember when I first brought here home I thought I would never sleep. I thought I felt so bad because I was so much older with her than the rest, but I think it was just her bad sleeping. I agree with SBH, sometimes I thinks it takes some babies longer to get into the nap/sleep cycle. Some seem to do it very young, and others take much longer. I am not a textbook mom, but have managed to survive through 4 of them now.. Sometimes, 'I just did what had to be done for her to get some sleep... at times that meant sleeping on mommy or daddy.. sometimes being carried around in the sling while she slept. Even if I didn't get to sleep, I felt more rested and calm just by having some quiet time, and she was happier with getting some sleep.. Will he sleep anywhere?? or just not in his crib?
And I am guessing you have tried the obvious things like background noise or music?
He sleeps well at night with us (co-sleeping/family bed Hide) and naps in his crib during the day. Although I have been known to try the swing or his vibrating bouncy seat as well as the Faux-Moby wrap. He's just gotten to the point where he won't nap anywhere.

We tried the gripe water around 4 weeks when we thought he was gassy/colicky...turns out his milk protein allergy was rearing its ugly head at that time.

Hide We've tried tummy naps too.

As y'all can see we were trying everything...which I believe has been to our detriment. We need to figure out what works best and stick with that.

Hope your little ones get to feeling better!

I have not encountered this but whether the register is to the front or the back of the counter my cashiers have met my friend Otto looking at him straight in the eye and don't mind him much. I guess my friend isn't much to look at. Although I have had some tell me that Otto really Rocks

Thrifty- You made me cry today Frown I'm sending them back too, so please take them back, well you have no choiceStick Out Tongue . Seriously though, you are so sweet for words hug

I'm going to chime in here. My DD has ALWAYS slept on her stomach. She rolled very easily (less than 2 weeks, will have to look at her baby book) and it was impossible keeping her on her back. That was some of the best sleep she has ever done and even now, she sleeps on her stomach still. I don't really see what is entirely wrong with it, but that is my opinion. Our parents did so many things and we lived, right? It does depend on comfort level. I used to flip dd constantly, but eventually gave up. She was happier, I was happier, it all worked out.
