That's a very cultural phenomenon. In college, it was 3 against 1 in the debate over whether to be a shoes-off household. 3 caucasians, 1 japanese. I remember sitting on her bed and my shoes brushed against her dust ruffle and she freaked out laugh out loud Yes, we had a dirty carpet - it was college though, I'm not going barefoot anywhere! In HS, my boyF (Chinese) and his fam didn't say anything but I could tell I should take my shoes off, so I did. Another boyF (Taiwanese) it was the same. Only a select few caucasian households I knew had that rule and it was because they had lily-white carpets. FWIW, we are now a shoes-off household. I can appreciate not tracking dirt in b/c I don't want to have to wash the carpets nod

ETA- this makes me think of how my mom measures how great a carpet is by how much dirt it hides, whereas others - focus on not getting it dirty in the first place LMAO...
it's true - asian societies require this. i have a feeling it goes back to temples and respect and such, but anyhoo, most of us were raised not wearing shoes indoors. it's not a HUGE deal to me on carpets and floors (i.e. i know ppl who don't and i don't freak out) but i just can't imagine having a shoe close to my bed. my bed is where clean resides, and shoes=dirt to me. (i mean, you step on a lot of really dirty stuff when you're outside...) she could have laid her shoes out on the floor and taken a photo and i wouldn't have commented at all. Smilie

i understand where your japanese roommate was coming from. laugh out loud

I want to watch Gangster Squad! I LOOOOOOOVED Public Enemy. I really like throwback movies and period pieces. I like gangster movies Hide The Untouchables. I think Iike what the women wore and how the men were always dressed up to anything they go to! drool

I also enjoy some superhero ones. I really liked The Amazing Superman. The Avengers. And the new Batman series reboot. The Watchmen was good too!
Of course the Ocean's series nod I liked the Bourne Series with Matt Damon, The Adjustment Bureau, The Tourist (Jolie & Depp are amazing in that)

For Sci-Fi, Super 8 kept me on my seat. Inception is AMAZING.

I can't think of anything else...my memory is lacking shake head
Definitely go see it..it was very good!

Yes - I have bought sushi from a grocery store before. As long as I don't get sick, right? I love going to Midori, AYCE sushi out in the valley. High quality and delish! I am not a high roller and have yet to find a good place. I can't afford Akasaka in my hood because last time I went, the prices were sky high and I forgot what we ended up getting, but their regular stuff was so-so. I don't drive a fancy car like all the Mercedes parked in the lot I will give it a try again in the far future.

About the shoes - I agree. In college, I didn't care. I ain't going barefoot ANYWHERE. I love how you made the distinction between Chinese and Taiwanese woot But I don't like shoes in the house because of dirt. We have hardwood floors now and if they aren't swiffered every few days, it's soooooo damn dusty! And furry. Fur cause of the dog, who is outside, mind you shake head
Others may not like this, but I love most sushi I've had at the Geisha House (Hollywood Location). They used to have this smokehouse philly roll Licklips You can probably see I'm not a sushi-purist Wink2 The more fun things they put on it the better Big Grin

So funny, I was going to go that route too about historical influences. I was thinking here- living on the praire or during the Dustbowl- they didn't have a chance to avoid dirt and religious and spiritual sites that are not Eastern do not stress those things (that I know of). I hope you didn't think I was implying that everyone freaks out Comfort , the roomy was the only one that did.

We both like movies about natural disasters or natural phenomenon. Most action movies also work for both of us. I like sports related movies & chick flicks. DH tolerates them. I guess that doesn't leave many genres we won't watch, if it's a really good movie. I can watch bad movies, if it's in a genre I generally like. It needs to be a really good movie for others.
Quote from nerdicus :
do you guys watch a lot of movies? i actually don't watch many at all, and it sounds like there's not much overlap between what i like and what you like. i'm probably not the best person to recommend stuff.
my bf is the biggest movie fanatic. we're watching a few movies a week-i have a bad memory so most of the time i dont remember the movies i watch!

have you seen:

water for elephants with robert patterson & reese witherspoon
Magic Mike? Wink Would your DBF watch that with you? Coverlaugh
Sound of my voice (its pretty interesting, sort of an indie film about cults)
Gattaca (i heart jude law & ethan hawk)

If we lived in CA, we'd go to SF for weekend getaways as often as possible. I can't believe you all don't go there more often. I suppose as with any place you could eventually get bored visiting the same area all the time.
o my goodness. i cant stand the drive from La to SF. its 6 hrs for me... i remember driving back one time with DBF's car and i totally sped. they clocked me at 82 and I was actually over 100 at times-good thing they didnt catch me then laugh out loud

i hate long car rides. your whole body just gets cramped! plus, i dont think its a "scenic" drive.

I must be a weird Asian. lol. Actually, I know I am. Smilie. I never grew up with the no shoes in the house rule.... So...I too rarely take my shoes off.... Even when I go to other Asian people's house... I know they notice.... But... Dontknow DBF's mom... The only thing she can complain about... Was me wearing shoes in her house, lol.... So now when I go over there, I take 'em off.... But... I'm usually wearing boots... And I'm heavily pregnant.... So I think she feels kind of bad now because it's her son who has to remove/put my shoes on for me....as there's no where for me to sit to do so myself! lol

Anyways... You girls have been unusually talkative in here. wave

I've been ordered on bed rest, so I'll probably pop in more often to check up on you. Ninja

Flames! I LOVE The Social Network. I watched it every time it was on when it was airing on the premium movie channels. I still have it on my DVR. (I am more likely to watch my DVR than pop in a DVD. #SoSad) Jennifer Aniston has been in some of the worst movies. The last movie I saw in the theater was either Ted or Magic Mike. Ted was awesome. They are doing a sequel. My aunt wanted to see MM. The dialogue was not the greatest. The storyline was a bit lacking. The best part is Channing Tatum's solo dance to the song Pony. Yes! I saw The Avengers also this summer. I am not into superhero movies at all, but I enjoyed it. I LOVE Mark Ruffalo. I thought he was an excellent choice for the Hulk.

On another note, a sad day is upon us. I have used my last paper VS merchandise credit. I will miss them. They served me well. I had $700 in MCs. I didn't realize I had that much left.

I mentioned a few weeks ago changes were coming to the post office. One of my exSOs called me with more info. I left the note in my car, but here is what I recall.

January 27 is when the changes take place. First-class letter rate goes up to $0.46. Parcel Post will undergo a name change...Standard Post. Delivery Confirmation is no more. They are implementing USPS Tracking which will be free on Priority Mail and Standard Post. It can be purchased for First-Class Parcels and Media Mail. For those of you that purchased Del Con in the Post Office and are familiar with the green slips, there will not be a slip that you can keep. Your tracking number will be listed on your receipt. (It was actually always listed on the receipt.)

That is all I can recall from the conversation. He knew some other price changes too. Since the tracking will be free on Priority & Standard, I am guessing the price difference between the two may be a bit greater than it is now.

I've actually never been to Geisha House. I don't like anything with sour cream or cream-like substance in my sushi. The lighter the better Hide I DO want to go to Geisha House some day though!

True about all those historical influences nod

Yes, once because my friends in SD raved about it. I was HIGHLY disappointed. Sit down food service was TERRIBLE. I am never going back and I will tell anyone who hasn't been about my bad experience. ex-dbf still left them a tip. I would've left them nothing. He believes in tipping very well, but that's over rated to me.

The desserts looked pretty, but were really tasteless to me. Yes, we may eat with our eyes, but what I had really really had no flavor and just tasted like flour. I'm never going back shake head

I'm glad you like it though! I think I'm just picky with my food.

Whee Bow panty! Soooo cute!!! I saw more inventory when I went to do a return sometime earlier this week. Sunday? Most were all pink panties though.

I am also sad about these changes. I hope Tracking is free, or part of the postage for click-n-ship for First Class. I like those forever stamps! Those are good nod I hope it's just a few cents though!

Ted & Mark Walhberg will be at the Oscars. It will be my first time watching the entire show. I love Seth too.

I am just glad I had the paper MCs to lower my Visa payment because of course I like the merc I charged on there rather than my VS CC.

I doubt the tracking will free for First-Class parcels online, but it will probably be reduced. I purchased some many Forever stamps when they were initially intintroduced. I cannot believe I used almost all of them. I had no idea I mailed that much. I am going to buy more tomorrow.

lol yeah right. The doctor said...no cooking, cleaning vacuuming or anything, try not to move around too much so baby can get as much blood/nutrients from me as possible...

And thank goodness DBF was there to hear the doctors words... Cause I had two days. shake head

It's hard because I have flipping four doctor appointments a week!

And then DBF works 6 days a week, and close to 80 hours a week, and he takes me to the majority of the appointments, and then head to work a 12+ hour shift in a busy restaurant, and on his one day off, he does the laundry, vacuuming, tidying etc. so I feel bad when after a long day of work, he has to stop by and get McDs or something. vomit

So I try to make something he can eat for two days, so I only have to cook/clean once, but it's so taxing, as I have two dogs too and one is a crazy intact puppy (getting fixed Monday, thank goodness!), and going to the docs alone...

But seriously? I think I'll get more rest once this baby is popped, because she's also been sitting on a nerve for months and I can't wait to get at least relief from that! lol

And then once baby is here, DBF is taking off to care for us both, and then my mom is taking off.

Ok, enough complaining. lol

Two more weeks though, and she'll be here! I have my induction appointment already, but hopefully she'll show up on her own! woot

o no... i went there once when visiting friends. and once DBF's sister brought us a coffee creme brulee back from their trip. the coffee creme brulee was really good; their normal creme brulee sucks tho. when i was there with friends, we tried a few items. there was a pink shangri la cake which was good. i got some type of meringue tart with a lot of fruits. Fruits were good, but the tart part was overly sweet. they are definitely beautiful desserts. i thought the taste was not bad. i also drank a giant spanish latte drool

hmm.. i thought it was not supposed to have service? we didnt tip since it seemed like self service. maybe it depends on the location you go to? the one we went to, basically you find your own table. if its full, you wait for a booth. there's no organization/line for seating tho.. so you have to eye and jump on it. then you sit down and people clean the table. pretty much all they do is bring you the food. theres no service more than that...

i was so surprised to see the bow panty at my vs. it was size large, but somehow ti fit anyway. i guess for thongs, its supposedly one size fits all? i usually wear a S in panties but the bow can be loose since we all know it ends up on the floor anyway! Wink i was really surprised no one snatched it up. maybe these novelty type things arent as popular in downtown La. There were still jingle panties and jingle thongs left. i'm going to two more VS's this weekend, so hopefully there'll be more merchandise waiting for me. Big Grin

I like Seth McFarlane too, but Ted was okay. I heart family guy and Stewie! he is the cutest conniving devil Evillaugh
