This http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=s9_dn...d_i=289929 type of mixer doesn't need to be expensive. You control the beaters, so it's easy to mix the batter completely. Mine was a cheap one & I have it for years. As long as you use it properly, you'll be fine with a cheaper one. This http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Be...03&sr=1-10 looks like a good one for a great price. This http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=s9_dn...d_i=289929 type of mixer needs to be a good, expensive one. The cheap ones don't mix the batter well. The beaters don't cover the entire bowl. You end up paying for a bowl, because it's useless as a mixer.

ETA: I included the links, because I didn't know if you were wanting a hand mixer like in the link or one that looks more like a hand blender. I've never used the one that's like a hand blender & can't offer an opinion on those.
Quote from azn1x6flame :
Just my personal experience with handheld mixers vs. kitchen aid stand mixer.

Handheld mixers make a flipping mess. A real huge pain in the butt mess. I used to like to bake when I was a kid, but that, coupled with the fact that I always had to clean up a mess made me bake less and less and less. Yes, I had a deep bowl, but it just wasn't enough. Yes, I tried to block the sprays with a paper towel, but it seemed like much of the ingredients were wasted flying out.

Then the Kitchen Aid stand mixer transformed my life. I've been a lot happier about baking and do it a lot more. Clean up is super easy. I can turn it on and walk away to prepare the baking pan, etc...and I don't have to worry about losing ingredients or cleaning up stuff that flew everywhere. I can make huge batches. Like 7-9 cups of flour huge. Saves time, saves grief.
Also, the consistency of the cake is SOOO much better with the stand mixer. Everything just mixes so much better. Things are fluffier, softer, and just overall better tasting. It makes baking a joy. I've baked the things I've given up on before by using the stand mixer and it's just fantastic.

I personally think that for the ~$70 difference, it's worth it to get a Kitchen Aid stand mixer.
Quote from nerdicus :
i don't think so... i don't have the kitchenaid handheld anymore so i dont remember just how good it is (i lost it in a breakup laugh out loud) but i used a non-kitchenaid handheld my whole life growing up and it never failed on me. i'm not sure if you really need a kitchenaid brand handheld.
Quote from kurips :
this is the mixer i have
http://www.amazon.com/Sunbeam-FPS...950&sr=1-2

fine for my purpose. i'm not a kitchen person. it can be either stand or hand mixer.
Thx for the tips girls! I am a novice when it comes to baking n cooking. Maybe I'll look into a cheaper brand stand mixer to try it out n c if I'm committed enough to upgrade to kitchen aid.

Let me do a mock order and see.. hold on.

ETA: Looks like $5.99, from what I see..

I purchased the 'I Love Grandma' Mugs.. picked out 3 pictures for it, it's only valid for the white mugs
I paid extra on my order to also order a Black mug (they're more expensive, but I figured both grandma's would get one)

Expires in June, I'm not going to go crazy ordering coffee mugs, so I don't want to go through the hassle of making separate billing addresses on my different accounts.. Be sure to confirm that I sent you the right code, want to make sure before I delete the emails from my separate accounts, add it to your account under special offers....

I don't know how express comes up with so many things I like consistently

I would say CA, but we don't have the humidity to make the beach warm. Although I stopped by on the way home just to dig my feet in the sand. Man, I belong here. I need this. Took the edge off the $5k proposed bill from the auto shop ... that and the margaritas DH has been feeding me since I returned Surf

Thinking of repeating this deal, and also getting MIL flowers, but since I am in the same state as her (2 miles away) going to first check out local flower shops, might find more varied or custom arrangements... that and the fact that MIL LOVES when she gets gifts from mom and pop shops..
...
Therapy couch time... how do we feel about that? Scratchchin
Quote from GoHeels :

I always look for arrangements online, then call the local florist to order my MIL's flowers. I usually order a more customized arrangement using the online arrangement as a example to start with. I can usually get it as cheap or cheaper, even if I ask for more expensive flowers to be added. If I stick with exactly what they have online, they charge the online price. Confused She lives in a small town, so that may not work where you live. It's worth a try though. Also, it seems like they do better work, when you speak to the shop personally. That's the reason I started calling directly, even though I hate talking on the phone. If your DBF isn't totally opposed to the idea, he could try once to see how it goes. If he's hesitant, let him keep doing things his way. At least, you're getting flowers regularly. Thumbsup
...
ZOMG exactly! nod One bad deal from FTD and that was it! No more flowers Sadwalk

laugh out loud DH and I were in NJ, when my FIL lost his job, after applying to several positions, he heard back from the city where his wife grew up in PA, he and his wife sold the house, packed up (after 15 years in NJ) and moved. We were left by ourselves, me, DH and my sister who was nearby. I found out we were expecting the baby in April last year, lease was up in July, we moved 6 hours away (I'd never moved out of my zip code since I was a baby :binky: ) and we chose to live near DH's parents... They loooooove to babysit, so not such a bad arrangement... they're the grandparents, so they don't follow anything regarding the baby's schedule, that's the price I have to pay... cranky baby after he stays with them, seeing as they don't let him nap... and there is my therapy couch time Roll Hide...

Today's Summary (First World Probs)
1) Leave for Auto maintenance appt, road is shut down for brush fire, must take extra 25 min route.
2) route has road construction, hello dirt truck traveling at 25mph Facepalm
3) at auto shop, "regular maintenance" turns into "OMG, everything is leaking and broken - you might just want to trade it in" (It's about $5k in repairs) EEK! Possibly only needs half of that.
4) They comp me a rental car and after driving it home, I realize it is on EMPTY and have to fill it up! and that they notated that on the rental agreement (WTF?)
5) eBay's been farking up the calculated shipping on my listings - telling people it is free and then when they pay, charge them $16?! At least one is threatening to open a case Facepalm
6) MARGAFRIGGINRITAS
7) The end, sorry for the rantation.
8) Más margaritas.

What! They do? Scratchchin This might be good for those lazy days. Although, I wear XS in the fitted version. I tried in S once and it was just too baggy for me.

Yeah - I like them a lot too and I hardly wear them for those exact reasons!

You guys get some really good deals on them! I usually get them for like around $20 and I get excited. shake head I like them too much to wait because the colors usually go OOS for me.
Yep! Who knows if that's an entirely different line or if they just decided to add "fitted" as a marketing gimmick and the variations in sizing from garment to garment fit that model Dontknow

I am so jelly. I can't justify driving 40-45 min just to do that for like 30 min and leave. Le sigh. Works for me every time. I just pretended I was there with the warm sun and sea breeze.

I also am afraid to set up my own beach umbrella without help. I always think it will fly away!
