I've always wanted a sewing machine and DH wanted to gift me one a while ago. I had a bad experience w/ my mom's old one (black- probably just after they added a foot pedal to machines laugh out loud ) and hand-sewed since then. I wanted to be a fashion (dress) designer when I was young, I'd draw my designs, but you can't really hand-sew something that big so I was stuck and the crafty neighbor that treated me like a daughter would have taught me but she passed away before we made it to that craft. Instead I would submit my designs to contests and hope they would pick my submission and sew one up for me Embarrassment . I got the pang for that again when I was in HS and had a business club competition (yes I'm an all-around nerd) at FIDM. My sewing urge runs deep Tongue

Here is the one I picked up for anyone interested - It's $155 now, I got it for $136
Brother CS6000i Feature-Rich Sewing Machine With 60 Built-In Stitches, 7 styles of 1-Step Auto-Size Buttonholes, Quilting Table, and Hard Cover [amazon.com]

- It's relatively lightweight, so I can take it with me to classes at JoAnn Smilie

so cute! excited for that bag, though that means i have to find yet another thing to buy... shake head i need an intervention.

nice! i want a sewing machine! someday, when we move and i have more space, i'm gonna go find me one... they're so useful. i'm sure there's a lot more bells and whistles on them nowadays though... i learned on older ones so that's all i know how to use. *but* if i had one i could set MIL up with it to fix/alter all my clothes... laugh out loud Shutup lmk if you see another potential deal!
Me too, I was "putting away" (stuffing in dark corners) just the ones from this year... soo many totes! shake head

Yes, I have no room for it, and no table that is the right height (coffee table and a pub height table - too tall for the pedal). I want to make duvet covers and hem stuff myself Smilie Yeah, put MIL to work! Evillaugh

I have a sewing machine and don't know how to use it. Hard part is getting it threaded and ready to go. The sewing part is easy.
Iagree Luckily- so many people post pics or videos , b/c I can't follow the threading diagrams! I took photos so I can remember how it goes. Also- this machine has an auto-threader! OMG

Looks like I missed on sewing machine deal Embarrassment I want one, it can come in handy to alter few basic things. Good luck learning sewing techniques. I used the one my mom had many years ago for some alteration when I was veryyyy skinny laugh out loud

...
Thanks, I posted the link above- not too big of a difference if you really wanted it- or you could watch it on camel^3. Many years ago you were a child! You're still svelte ! Skinny + curves of a woman now nod

Quote from smilinghelen :
That's awesome! For all the sewing and little alterations that I do, it's a wonder I don't have a sewing machine. I do everything tediously by hand. I didn't know there was a front page sewing machine HD.. although, DH is probably glad I didn't know.. he's having me clean out a BUNCH of my things and try to donate or sell them.. so I spent the morning making listings.. I don't know how he'll react when my 3 purses that I ordered come in Facepalm I know, I need purses like I need totes... I bought harvey seatbelt bags.. in colors navy, raspberry, and checkerboard.. all in size Medium.. paid $133 shipped for everything, but it's still ALOT. I've wanted these bags forever and a day..
...
Smilie I bought it on 5/18, so probably posted a little before that on SD. laugh out loud about eBay. DH liked it until people started bringing stuff over for me to sell for them then he's Annoyed b/c now we're storing stuff here. Ooops ErmmETA - Harvey bags?! Where? I love my seatbelt bag!

Thanks ladies. Do you somehow clean the envelopes before reusing them or use them like you receive them? My VS envelopes always look like they've been run over a few times by the time they get to me.
...
Just like what Nerdi said, I just pick the best I can. I would say 2 out of 5 bags are reusable for me. Either they aren't the resealable type, or there's too much dirt or they are snagged. If it's a little dirty, I figure it's OK since it will get dirty on the way over.
Quote from GoHeels :
Those people sound unbelievable. I'm glad you got out of it, without losing more money or something worse. Lesson learned I'm sure.

BTW, I have guests coming in a few days. Would you come & clean my house too? Please Enjoy your aunt. Smilie
...
Yeah. Although, Evil me wants to do the People's Court w/ Judge Judy or someone that doesn't put up with nonsense just so other people can hear the craziness and maybe they can admit they need some help, oh and I'd get the money too laugh out loud

Thank you I did enjoy her stay, she left today, it was a short stay Frown ...that's a lot of unintentional rhyming Coverlaugh She likes to pack it in though. In 24 hours we went to the beach, learned how to use my sewing machine, made fudge, caught up on the family stuff and she forced me to make a dr. appt. I had been avoiding heart. We were supposed to hit up JoAnn and hem a dress too but we slept in. Tongue I'm exhausted.
While I appreciate the request, I'm not sure I'm what you would want... when I say "clean", I really mean "hide our crap" in the most organized way possible. It didn't work out terrribly well since DH kept leaving our bedroom door open and my aunt is nosey and was opening closet doors and stuff Doh

sorry i didn't reply.. hope you found a great outfit. Smilie imo if guys are wearing dress shirt + slacks then that is fair game for you to dress businessy - blazer should be fine. i would wear a bright colored blouse to dress it down - perhaps a bright colored portofino (non-sheer one). and go with non-black - black tends to look more formal.

but in general i think dress pants + blouse + cardigan is fine too - as long as you're wearing heels that's plenty dressy enough. go with layers for awhile until you get a good feel for the weather in the office, and maybe bring a black sweater to leave at the office in case you get cold.

i hate the summer bc i always want to wear all my skirts... but they turn up the a/c to counteract the heat outside and i end up freezing.
Thanks! And no problem at all Smilie It was really different leaving for work today. It was blazing hot outside. I'm so used to the cold, freezing beach gusts after work.

All the guys came in a suit and tie so I opted for a pantsuit. Thank goodness because my manager was in a skirt suit. I'm definitely doing layers for a while until I figured how the AC is.

There's some important event where the women are required to wear a dress or suit. I might actually get to wear all my new clothes Whee

I can't believe how close VS and Express are! But I think I will bypass making returns just because I'm afraid I will have too much stuff to return! EEK! The lot I park in is in the opposite direction too so I can't really lug around all my stuff shake head

I totally feel bad for what you and your DH are going through. Seems just so terrible with those people hug It's one thing to be cheap, but to be cheap AND not willing to pay your share is the WORST.

I have quite a few of them just by returning and rebuying shake head I'm so tired of the certs! Especially with the one per account business! I hope that's not the case this time around.

Got my huge Express order today, including my very first portofino! Most of the stuff is a little big though.

Bought a pair of these in brown: cotton sateen cropped columnist pants [express.com] for work and I love them! I like columnist anyway but these are great.

I also got this skirt in clearance: high waist pleated ponte knit skirt [express.com]- it's soooo girly! :3

I got this too! I don't shop there, but I'll find something around $20.01!

they carry cargo at ulta or dermstore (they usually are out of some colors there tho). cargo was discontinued there at least 2 years ago... it was before i got into makeup.

i do have to say - i think the cargo powder is pigmented and does well in blurring stuff but i don't think it's great at keeping things matte. i have read reviews that say it does not prevent oilies well. i'm not sure if that's what you need powder for - if so you may want to try others.

i must admit i am pretty lazy most of the time and forget to powder my face. :l ol: i have been getting oily a lot lately but i still forget to do it.
My face no longer gets oily. It was bad in my teens & 20s. Now I use it to minimize shine & help my makeup survive humidity. I also think it makes my face look smoother.

Dermstore has Cargo blu_ray in light. http://www.dermstore.com/product_..._18877.htm Are there more colors that may match my skin better? Dermstore seems to only have light, medium, & dark.

Quote from nerdicus :
it sold out really quick this time. i placed an order right when i saw that it was back. by the next day, the classic was gone.

i've heard good things about mac mineralize baked powder - i would want to try that one as a finishing powder, if i actually used one. (however i know that doesnt help you since sephora doesn't sell that either)
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look for that too.

Your post made me realize my post about my aunt's sewing machine must have sounded like a duh post. Blush They all have pedals. Her old machine required you pump a pedal with both feet. One pedal was the only power source.

I rarely get VS bags that are resealable or are clean enough to reuse. I thought maybe you all used acetone or something to clean them. Those of you who shop there more often increase your chances of getting some that work. Good reason to shop a lot, huh? Teehee

Your aunt would wear me out. Stick Out Tongue I'm already dreading getting up early Saturday to Friday. I would love having guests, if only they would sleep later. laugh out loud My niece who is visiting likes to check everything out too. A couple people in my family are like that. I don't get it. Why would anyone care what people keep in their drawers & closets? Dontknow

light should be the color i would guess would match you best. they go by numbers usually- 10, 20, 30, 40. it looks like the 'light' at dermstore is 10, which is the lightest one. i use 20, which has been sold out there forever.

-- checked on ulta's site and it looks like 20 is "beige". Dontknow

hope it works for you!
