I refer to the German years Wink The USA has not done much for me in terms of additional maturity Embarrassment

I still remember bringing itching powder to a church camp in Germany and the church ladies for some reason were not amused. I thought it was hilarious. Maybe a whoopie cushion would have gone over better Wink
laugh out loud Yeah, I can see how that wouldn't go over too well in a German group. I have family on both sides (mom and dad) from Germany and grew up in a mostly German area of Texas. Not a lot of pranksters amongst that group.

I initially lived in Texas for a couple of years to go to college and visited the Oktoberfest in New Braunfels and also the area around Weimar, Tx. With location names like that, I could not help but come across people of German descent. It definitely made living in the USA a little bit easier.

I then moved to the Midwest and lived near an area with a lot of Amish and Mennonites, where many women reminded me of the church ladies. Very friendly, but definitely not interested in pranks.

Well, I cheated on graupel. It is a term we use in German, where we do not pun, but only use extreme precision to describe winter weather (no wintry mix in the forecast on German TV ever!) and the same term happens to apply in English.
I never learned it well enough to watch the news there laugh out loud

Back in the 60's and 70's we would go to Fredericksburg, Tx. often and it was quite common to hear german being spoken in the stores there and on the street. Back then a friends parents had thick german accents because they didn't learn english until they went to school. It cracked me up the first time his dad said y'all because it came out as yule and it took me a second to figure out what he meant.
