Formula One 2013 *possible spoilers in thread*

Things are off to a rocky start in testing. Ferrari's car caught fire and there are some gear box issues, while Hamilton's car had brake failure, causing a minor crash into the barrier, he wasn't hurt though.

And some really sad news today, David Coulthard's 35 year old sister has died at home of what appears to be a heart attack.

What takes precendence, the flashing light boards or the actual flags of the track workers? If I recall NBC pointing that out, it was pretty clear the nearest track workers weren't waving any flags, it was just the light board, and I don't think they ever showed if it had shown up on the track status officially Dontknow

Having made his world championship debut for Maserati in 1951, Gonzalez beat friend and compatriot Juan Manuel Fangio to victory in the 1951 British Grand Prix to give the Scuderia their maiden F1 win.

It was to be the first of Gonzalez's two victories in a Formula One career that spanned 26 Grands Prix, the other - also for Ferrari at Silverstone - coming in 1954 en route to his career-best second place in the driver standings.

Nicknamed the 'Pampas Bull', the stocky Gonzalez's driving talents extended beyond Formula One racing - he famously won the Le Mans 24-hour sportscar race for Ferrari in 1954 alongside Frenchman Maurice Trintignant.

Mark has been a good man and a good driver. Too bad he was only the #2 driver on his team when he was in a car worthy of winning a championship.

Let the silly season begin with guessing and vying for that #2 seat at RBR.
Maybe Nico should move there LOL since Hammy's taken Merc's #1 seat. laugh out loud Maybe someone like Paul Di Resta would be a good fit. Good driver, easy on the tires, and would be a good support driver to Vettel. Or they could just elevate one of the STR boys.

I think that's a good move. it'll avoid the drama of him switching to another team in F1 with all the "why'd you switch to a worse team" type questions nod Mark seems like a genuinely good guy, too.

I think I'd like to see RBR give somebody pretty young a shot to see what they can do with a good car. they really don't have that much to lose, hardly any of the teams have two consistent drivers, either nod

I'd love to see them take a flyer on someone like Bottas.

No real downside and a massive upside.
Imagine if they could position him as a rival against Raikkonen since i highly doubt Vettel will ever be happy with Kimi as a teammate.
Hell he could barely co-exist with the nicest guy in the entire sport.

German prosecutors have indicted Formula 1 motor racing boss Bernie Ecclestone on a bribery charge.

The charge relates to a $44m (£29m) payment to German banker Gerhard Gribkowsky of Bayern Landesbank, linked to the sale of a stake in F1.

Mr Ecclestone denies bribing Gribkowsky, and says the money was intended to stop the banker from exposing him to a UK tax inquiry.

Mr Gribkowsky was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in jail in Munich.

Formula One racing is set for a return to Austria in 2014 after an 11-year break.

The Austrian Grand Prix has been provisionally scheduled for July 6 in Spielberg after Red Bull team officials spoke with F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone.

"(Red Bull owner) Dietrich Mateschitz and Bernie Ecclestone have reached an agreement to bring back Formula One racing to (the province of) Styria,'' the Austrian-based company behind the F1 team said Tuesday.

I lost the link, but this comes with further rumors of pushing NY off the calendar again. I haven't seen a status lately, but that race is starting to look like vaporware, so to speak...

When they first started talking about NJ, DH said that it would never happen. It sort of looks like he might be right.

In addition to Russia and Thailand, Bernie is also talking about Mexico and Argentina, and IIRC was in talks recently over Mexico.

Not going to happen in NJ unless it's built in that wetlands/parks area. Even if it's NJ, I dont want cars driving by my house for a race and it would be a logistical nightmare.

I agree with him and I think the next that will happen are Russia and Mexico thanks to Carlos Slim we might be getting 3 races in North America. Didn't hear about Thailand but I've been busy and not reading my tweets or F1 stuff. Argentina hmm.. I guess that might happen but then Bernie would need to kick some races off the calendar. 20 races is the limit - more and I think we're running into Nascar territory and burning people out figuratively. Mexico yes and take Valencia off, Argentina maybe but must keep crazy weathered Brazil in near the end of the season as it always adds so much fun/drama. Get rid of Bahrain and we can talk. But as is custom, pay Bernie enough and anything is possible.
