Carnival Triumph engine fire; lost power; tug boats pulling it to Mobile, AL.

The 500 or so McDonald's franchisees and executives onboard should at least be used to the conditions if they've spent much time in one of their restaurants.
We cruise on Carnival 5 months from today!
(different ship though)

Regardless, to summarize, you're making general statements about cruising when for all we know, you were on the Mark Twain Riverboat at Disneyland.
I'm making more specific statements about cruising, have been on several recently, and have given details here about what types of cruises I've been on.

Anyone else notice the smiley on the left opens its mouth 3 times and the one on the right only does 2?
There was one cruise on Norwegian (I forget which ship or what year) where I had a baked potato at a restaurant. I asked if I could get shredded cheese and bacon, and the waiter said they didn't have any. So instead of letting me go without - even when I told him he didn't have to - he ran down to another restaurant in the ship to get them for me
And I think they are always refilling your drinks. I take a sip of water, and someone comes by to fill it up
Apparently even on this stranded cruise ship, people said that the staff was still happy to help, and always there with a smile. I don't know how they do it!
On RCI, we lost our tickets for the Ice Capades show. We were trying to get more tickets but couldn't wait in the long line to get them since we needed to eat before the show (and had a dinner reservation time). The Maitre D saw we were discussing it and that we looked frustrated so he got involved, telling us to sit down and eat and he'd see what he could do. He came back a bit later with tickets.
We always get a name and go to the main customer service desk and comment on employees that go out of their way for us, since they get rewards for this, and they work hard, long hours. After making these compliments, every time those employees saw us later, they always said hi, had giant smiles and gave a big thank you, especially the table clearing people that don't have as much of a chance to go out of their way for passengers, and thus don't get many compliments. We actually told his manager/sup directly instead of the main CS desk. Manager was very thankful and explained that they don't get many compliments. Usually people only take the time to comment when it's negative.
Somewhat related, but often if you ask for something at dinner that they don't have, they might have it for you the next night. Also if they overhear that you like a certain desert, they might automatically bring it for you ever night (along with whatever desert you order). First night of eating, we asked for oil and balsamic vinegar for our bread, and they automatically brought it out every other night. Many things like this have happened to us (yes, on Carnival too), and happen to many passengers. With both Carnival and RCI, we liked our dinner wait staff so much, that we insisted on having them every night. Cruises really are 5 star service (that's a well known fact...before you-know-who says I've never had 5 star service).
