Carnival Triumph engine fire; lost power; tug boats pulling it to Mobile, AL.

The 500 or so McDonald's franchisees and executives onboard should at least be used to the conditions if they've spent much time in one of their restaurants.
We cruise on Carnival 5 months from today!
(different ship though)

On the Carnival Dream 7 night cruise, they had a chocolate bar with probably at least 50 different types of chocolate related deserts. It was absolutely insane. You can probably google/bing image it. I think it's only on 7+ day cruises. RCI doesn't have this.
Carnival also had a welcome aboard party on the 1st or 2nd night (can't remember), with free drinks. It wasn't highly advertised to keep from overcrowding. And they had a past-guest party on the last night with free drinks, even if you'd only cruised once with them. RCI didn't offer any of this. There was no fighting, loud drunks, etc. at these on our cruises (again, I've never been on less than a 5 day cruise). But my last Carnival cruise was 3/2011, and I think they don't have the free drinks at welcome aboard anymore, and for the past guest party, now you have to have sailed more days to qualify.
People have mentioned the entertainment quality. Many of the comedians tour professionally outside of cruising, and I've been on two different cruises were the comedians had been in movies. One person, on the Carnival Dream, was Just June, who was in the movie Coming to America (with Eddie Murphy). The RCI cruise had an awesome juggler that said he'd been in several TV shows and/or movies (but I can't freakin remember his name), and the singer/guitarist/etc that I mentioned earlier, that's worked with many famous bands. Also some of the skaters in the Ice Capades show had been in the Olympics (like other cruise ship employees/entertainers, the skaters were from different countries...USA, Russia, etc).
One of the Carnival cruises we were on had a really good chinese acrobat show.
I've never seen a real Broadway show, but I know someone who has, and went on a Carnival cruise (ship=Legend) and said the Carnival shows were as good. Now, I didn't say that; he did. And of course he may have forgotten how good the Broadway shows are, but they were obviously close enough to make such a comparison. Carnival did say the shows were million dollar productions. And they do have live orchestras.
I was going to quote your other post to reply, but it's long. Instead:
My first cruise got me off on the right foot. I think it was a shorter one - like 5 days or so - on an older ship: the Carnival Ecstacy, and I was definitely younger. Maybe 15 or so? The service everywhere was great! And I think it's the only ship where the server at a lounge/restaurant type of area stuck a straw in my drink and swirled the paper from the straw around it really pretty.

In an unrelated incident, Mobile Fire-Rescue reported that a guard shack occupied by 2 BAE employees [al.com] was blown into the water along the docks. A search for the missing person using two search dogs is under way, Mobile Fire Rescue said. A United States Coast Guard helicopter is on site helping with a possible rescue mission.

Sad about the two workers. This was certainly not an issue where Carnival would be at fault, but it does put their name on another negative incident.

One of the guards was rescued. Sounds like they haven't located the other guard yet. Very sad.
