Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

LEDs cost about 50% less to operate than CFLs and I find the color temperature closer to incandescents. The lifespan of LED bulbs is 2 to 3 times that of CFLs.
LEDs also do not contain the toxic mercury you'll find in all florescent bulbs, including CFLs.

This is a good bulb at a pretty good price: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Cree-9...XdcKLWG0fU

Nice Win. Congrats.
Home depot is right down the block. maybe i will check it. some of my lampshades are small - are they cool to touch?

there is no one here to run a cord. Nothing here. We one by one put everything on and one by one, with sam watching the meter, I shut them off. The real big user was the new hot water heater. it spun like crazy. so we called the plumber-may be a defective element.
I keep my hot water heater about 110* to save electric. Perfect to run straight hot for the bath water and still hot enough for dishes and laundry. Alot of people turn it on high for hotter water but then they run cold with it! No sense heating up the water if it just sits in the tank for 20-22 hours a day! We have a tankless gas hot water heater and it only heats the water when we turn on the hot water.
Since you own your own home it might be worthwhile to look into solar power. Sometimes you can get the college to come out and install them if you buy the panels and you can get tax rebates on those. There is also a program to loan the money for solar and they dont charge more than what your electric was

They do get warm but not hot - the circuitry produces some heat but not the actual lights. They are definitely cooler to the touch than CFLs. I have a lamp in the family room that is on 24/7, it's been on non-stop with an LED for well over a year and I can easily put my hand right on the bulb.

I've been switching the lights that are on the most to LEDs
LEDs have a whiter light also
they last 15-25 years with 2-3 hour daily use

I watch home depot for sales, Costco has the cheaper sometimes
Sometimes you can get them at Ben's Outlet or one sale a day http://bensoutlet.com/products/led-bulbs-4-pk

The new water heater should be more efficient than the old one. does not make sense. 12 yrs ago i had a little grey box installed which was a timer. it never worked out - always had it set to off when i needed it. so i had it disconnected but it has an on/off switch. so we wrote down the usage for the last 2 days and will check it tomorrow while it is off all night to see if it is that. something is draining the electric. we never did shut it off all these years. some people say it costs more to put it on than what you save turning it off.
